LaCie FireWire Speakers

MyMac
3 May 2008
  • Excerpt: Ok, I was intrigued by this unique idea, speakers that do NOT connect to the audio output jack on your computer, and did not use the already overcrowded USB, but rather are bus powered, getting power from your computer, connected to the FireWire port instead. But why do I need this? Every computer I have ever owned had an audio output port, and so far, I have not had reason to dislike the audio coming from it.

LaCie FireWire Speakers

Macworld
12 April 2007
  • Excerpt: (1 items) LaCie's descriptively-named FireWire Speakers are unique among speakers we've tested: rather than connecting to your computer using a standard audio cable, or even a USB cable, these compact (5.3" high by 3.9" wide by 3.5" deep) speakers connect via FireWire. You plug the right speaker's built-in FireWire cable -- unfortunately, the speakers aren't labeled, so trust me on this, the one with the FireWire cable is the right -- into your computer's FireWire port...

Expert Review

AppleSource
5 October 2007
  • Conclusion: The LaCie speakers make for a sleek and sexy addition to your computer set-up, and the lack of serpentine cables to stash is a bonus. They're also reasonably priced at AU$149. Our main complaint would be that they are almost too powerful -- if you like to have tunes playing quietly in the background, you'll probably need to adjust both your system volume and the volume within your music player app.
  • Pros: May require adjustments that aren't mentioned in the manual, High volume, No visual volume indicator
  • Cons: Sleek and sexy, Few cables, Powerful sound, no tinniness

LaCie FireWire speakers

CNET

  • Summary: Looking like they've been plucked from the deck of a cruise ship, LaCie's FireWire speakers sound great, but are best suited to party animals who like a lot of volume.
  • Pros: Sleek and sexy, Few cables, Powerful sound, no tinniness
  • Cons: May require adjustments that aren't mentioned in the manual, High volume, No visual volume indicator

Lacie FireWire Speakers

Laptop World
25 July 2011
