Muddy Sound, Cute Design

Steven Cohen, Amazon
15 March 2016
  • Summary: They sounded really dreadful. "Muddy" would be the word I'd use for what they do to music. If you find yourself reverting back to your 25 year old original Apple computer speakers because they sound better, you have to admit there's a problem.

Not a good system for loud music

Rob Cash, Amazon
11 March 2016
  • Summary: The sound is good if you do not turn up the sub or volume up too high (subwoofer developed crackle unless turned down real low). Not a good system. Off too find something better for my computer.

Great speakers, bad jacks.

Neal, Amazon
26 October 2012
  • Summary: So I really love these speakers. I've bought 3 sets of them. The speakers are excellent with good sound throughout. The problem is that both the headphone jack and the subwoofer jack are of very poor quality. They will fail *far* before the otherwise great speakers.

Sounded good for one day, then broke

OccasionalBuyer, Amazon
16 July 2011
  • Summary: I was very excited about these speakers since they seemed perfect for my home setup. Unfortunately, after setting them up I could not get the the speakers and subwoofer to work.

Great Sound, Terrible Design

Glen C., Newegg
24 November 2008
  • Summary: Very low volume I noticed some mid range distortion when using Media Player or iTunes, but anything else seemed okay so it could have been my output or sound card. I have even pluged my iPod directly into these speakers and did not replicate the problem, and they sounded great!
  • Pros: The sound for the size was amazing, deep bass and relatively high highs, with little distortion at normal listening volumes. They were easy to set up and the small size allowed me to set them right on my desk top without compromising space.
  • Cons: The DIN Jack that plugs the preamp on the satelite speaker with the volume controls to the main amplifier mounted in the subwoofer broke off after the first month. I questioned how that could have happened as once it was all set up and plugged in, they didn't move. My observations of the cheap pl...

Died at exactly 2 years

Anonymous, Newegg
6 October 2008
  • Pros: Sound great, great mids, great bass, great tweet
  • Cons: Slowly started popping out, forcing me to shake the sub. One day they just died, nothing. Turns out the sub gets a little too hot on the inside, fries a few connections and/or components

DOA

Anonymous, Newegg
20 August 2008
  • Summary: Other thoughts are this plain sucks and the guy who made the decision on their end needs a good ole fashioned hard driven power ridden kitchen spoon spankin' !!! HEY you never know it might get us those speakers we wanted ;) All in all I've been dealing with newegg for 8 yrs so I'm just going to...
  • Pros: none
  • Cons: Bought this for the parents. Satellite speakers came DOA. Parents threw out the box, but nevertheless we sent the speakers back via UPS for a simple repair and explained what happened. New Egg robotically replied a few times they wouldn't do anything without the box. All we wanted was a working p...

14 February 2008
  • Summary: maybe you'll have better luck, but if you look at the klipsch boards you'll see only negative comments about the durability of the plug and other problems with these speakers.
  • Pros: The speakers sounded AWESOME for a year....
  • Cons: The mini-din plug broke, so i soldered on a new one according to the lay-out found on the klipsch message boards. a few months later they stopped working again, but a new plug did not fix it. the board had a fried capacitor on it. i take care of my speakers very well, and this is ridiculous for t...

User Review

Christopher B., Newegg
27 December 2007
  • Summary: Completely unreliable right out of the box (which came directly from the manufacturer). I won't be purchasing anything from Klipsch in the future.
  • Pros: Solid bass, capable of being very loud overall.
  • Cons: After 20 minutes the right speaker went out (the volume was low enough that I could carry a conversation with someone 10 ft away). After that, it came and went at random. Wires were secure

Reviewing Promedia 5.1, Sounds great, but unreliable

Cliff H., Newegg
5 July 2007
  • Summary: High quality sound, low quality product. Keep in mind, this review is for the Promedia 5.1 speaker system, not this 2.1 system.
  • Pros: Best sounding desktop speakers I heard. And I personally checked out more than a dozen higher end systems before I bought the Promedia 5.1 set.
  • Cons: I'm older and listen mostly to classical music along with some gaming. I don't abuse my audio equipment, but these can't take even normal, old person levels of sound. They got scratchy after a few months, and died outright after 13 months. Spend your money elsewhere, unless you can afford to repl...
