Looks great... poor sound...
21 March 2013
Summary: CNet... you've got to be kidding. I just got a set of these speakers (refurbed from H-K) because I thought they would look great and sound great with my vintage Apple Cube system. Well, at least they look great. The woofer is woefully underpowered and the satellites are way too bright in the upper midrange... shrill, especially at higher volume settings.
Summary: I had a set of H-K fire sticks that I bought in 1999 I loved them the sound was teriffic with lots of very un distorted Bass They suddenly gave out recently after a lot of use at very loud levels and never did they falter The replacements are far from the quality sound that the origionals were The volume comtrol (SUCKS) Thsi company appears to be going in reverse in my opinion I hate to bad mouth something but dont buy these they are not good quality at all
Summary: After seeing all the great reviews here I thought I'd give you all a little perspective from someone who has owned a pair of these for several years. They sound great out of the box, but be aware that they do clip (distort) a bit. Over time mine even started rattling and coming apart. The magnets on two of the small speakers came off and I had to put tape on both sticks to keep them together, which has resulted in more rattling.
Summary: When I first bought these speakers I thought that they were great for the money. The sound is not the best, but for the cost it is very good. However, after less than 18 months of light use the speakers have stopped working. The LED on the power brick still lights-up, but the woofer does not and no sound comes out of the system. I've read that others have had the same problem. 18 months is way too short a time for a system to fail. I wouldn't buy these speakers again.
Summary: I purchased these speaker in January 2011, and was very pleased with the sound quality. Unfortunately, after about 6 mos., one speaker began to come in and out with sound. No amount of reconnecting, etc. improved the problem. It is now Sept. 2011, and only one speaker works. Very disappointing. In addition, the volume control, which used to work sometimes, does not work at all.
Summary: Not enough Midrange, too bright on the highs and a bit too boomy on the lows. Environment is a larger bright office with hard floors. I adjusted the sub-woofer, but got no satisfaction. May sound a bit better in a room with carpet. When the Soundsticks were placed behind the LCD monitor, they sounded much improved; the high's were not as bright as when the speakers were in direct view.
Summary: I purchased these speakers as an addition to my iMac. Firstly the speakers are lovely to look at and produce an excellent weighty sound with great clarity on the treble. Was very pleased with the purchase until they developed a fault and no sound is being emitted from them whatsoever despite checking all connections. Harman offer a 2 year warranty but currently going back and forth between them and amazon to action a repair and a replacement.
Summary: I first purchased a set of these around November 2010. The design and sound quality are impressive. Similar to other reviews, the level of volume these can reach for such a small size, whilst holding clarity, truly is a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, around January 2011, I noticed that one of the towers was playing predominantly louder than the other.
