User Review

Earl H., Newegg
6 April 2007
  • Summary: Instructional materials are sparse. But then that seems a trend with a lot of electronics these days.
  • Pros: I've had my speakers about 3 months. They work well, spectacularly well and I am very pleased. I had had a set of 6.1 GigaWorks and were just as pleased with them (now passed on to my son). Well recommended, but exercise caution and don't place the sub-woofer unit against a wall or poorly ventila...
  • Cons: The heatsink for the sub-woofer unti could have been a little bigger. At medium volumes they get warm. We live in an apartment so I can't crank them right up, but I would expect bad results. I have mounted a 120mm x 120mm case fan on my heatsink and it's cool as a cucumber now, but then my techni...

Don't Buy, amplifier overheats!

Aaron M., Newegg
7 February 2007
  • Summary: Great sound, but I will never buy another Creative Labs speaker system again. For $400+ this system should last for more than 3 months. If you already have this system, get a good set of fans on the heat sink or else never let the room temp get above 70 degrees.
  • Pros: Excellent sound quality! This system will really bring your music and movies to life. Couple this system with a decent sound card and it is really something to behold. The powered subwoofer hits hard for its size and the satellites have suprising dynamic range for their size.
  • Cons: Warning: IF YOU BUY THS SYSTEM, PUT COOLING FANS ON THE HEAT SINK! This is a poorly designed product that should be recalled. I have heard of units frying them selves due to overheating. I thought people had been pushing their system too hard till my own system blew up. You know when your system ...

Don't over do it...

Philip G., Newegg
5 February 2007
  • Summary: In retrospect, I probably wouldn't spend this much for this product knowing what I know now - but with my appreciation in gaming, music, and movies - I can just never get enough... But for everyone else, just don't over do it!
  • Pros: True surround sound with the seven speakers and very nice sub. Great software that is bundled with the system.
  • Cons: Stock wires not long enough - they need to realize that a 7.1 system will be probably used in a larger than usual room... I had to buy my own wall mounts ($$$). Creative Customer Service could be much better. You would think that spending over $400 for speakers would amount to pretty good service...

Gotsa Some Boom

Chris B., Newegg
30 January 2007
  • Summary: Bought this with Audigy2 ZS Plat for 7.1 surround in my home theater. Speakers are nice but no mounting. Wal-Mart had universal speaker mounts, cheap too, so in the end it worked out. Each speaker has a "Creative" logo emblem on the front.
  • Pros: Powerful Amp, quality speaker construction. All speakers seem identical, except for the main amp (duh). The center channel has some extra "Rubber feet", but each speaker actually seems identical, as they all carry the same part number. This makes for flexible installation options.
  • Cons: Speakers don't come with mounting hardware, and for the price, you would think they would. Cord management is a bit much. Required to make 7 RCA connections to the speakers, 4 miniplugs to your sound card, just gets a bit much. Oh, the main AMP only has 4 inputs, thus Center/Sub, Rear Left/Right,...

6 September 2006
  • Summary: Great 7.1 don't crank em 24/7. If used correctly sub will last.
  • Pros: These speakers will really bring down the house. Software that is included is very nice, many options for your speakers. Absolutly great sound.
  • Cons: My sub died after a year, RMA'd it same thing about 5 months later. My buddy had same set and didnt use his bass nearly as much as me and it's lasted over 2 years.

Wonderful but with reservations!?

Anonymous, Newegg

  • Summary: These speakers are great performers unlike any I have ever found. I use Creative products consistantly and have always been pleased with the results.
  • Pros: I bought these speakers 12/05/2005, and they are great supurb sound and awesome power. Crank these babies up and my entire house shakes to the beat. I haven't heard car audio thump like these.
  • Cons: Sub died around 06/01/06 called creative and sent complete set back to be serviced. Hopefully the repair/ or replace will be as good as past experience with Creative. (which has been excellent)

Good while it lasts

Anonymous, Newegg
16 May 2006
  • Summary: If I could go back I wouldn't have bought these. I would have saved $100 and gotten 5.1 Logitechs instead. If you pay over $400 for speakers they should last more than a year
  • Pros: The power in these speakers is unreal. It is almost a shame because if you live anywhere near other people you will never get to hear these babies perform at their full potential without annoying the hell out of your neighbors/roommates
  • Cons: After a year of good times my sub has finally died. Apparently these subs start running into problems about a year out, and you're in trouble when you have to start using CL's support which mainly consists of forums of other people complaining about their problems begging for help and getting zer...

S700

Anonymous, Newegg
13 December 2005
  • Summary: For the money they are good, they give clear and vibrant sounds; just turn the EQ up and the mid range will sound great; blistering guitar solos, bright snares, that's what they give you. The wireless remote and headphone jack are 2 very welcomed editions.
  • Pros: Very clear bass and highs; mid could be a tad stronger out of the box, but any playback software has an EQ, so just turn them up to your taste (I do this with the 2K-8K ranges). The mids don't distort, but you can tell good mp3s and wavs from bad ones very easily. Works great in conjuction with A...
  • Cons: Acoustically speaking, plastic speakers don't carry a tune as well as a boxed enclouse would have, but it's not that bad; would have like to see a few more features on the bass station. Somewhat cheap design of the station too, feels very flimsy. Mids should be brighter out of box, bass will drow...

Great!

Anonymous, Newegg
8 December 2005
  • Summary: Great buy if you would like some new surround speakers to last you for years and if you are willing to fork out the money. Overall - Buy these speakers if you want an awesome 7.1 surround sound system!
  • Pros: These speakers sound amazing and have great highs and midranges during movies and some music. If you can get a Sound Blaster X-Fi series card as well, it will sound even better because of all of the new features that is supplies. Speaker wires are about 16 gauge, and there is plenty in length.
  • Cons: Some midrange sounds in music could be a little stronger, but all you have to do is go and tweak the setting with your sound card to pull them out a little. They also sound under powered at really low volumes, turn them up and you will be amazed by the sound though! The control pod could also be ...

Big Sound...

Victor M., Newegg
7 December 2005
  • Pros: 700 Watts is 700 Watts no matter where you are. Plenty of cable lengthfor rear speakers. Solid feel to stands. Excellent directional sound.
  • Cons: Heavy Midrange sounds somewhat lacking in music. Remote control underpowered.
