Great Until the Subwoofer Fails
25 August 2013
Summary: After many happy years with a series of CSW products, I ordered an extreme 2.1 multi-media system in 2011. About 1 month after the warranty expired, the BassCube 821 sub shorted out. CSW will fix it for $200 plus shipping, or sell me a new one. This seems to be a common theme with CSW subwoofers now. CSW clearly no longer has the engineering prowess they once had. The failure rate of their subwoofers should have been a wakeup call by now.
Summary: I own six of the Extreme 2.1 models. I also have two friends that own the same models. In all fairness, they are the best sounding speakers in their class that I've discovered so far. They are great until you use them too long in one setting. Then they break, and they will eventually break. I've had to send various subs in four times at least to always have the same thing fixed. The amp in the subwoofer.
Summary: This is the best sounding system I have experienced among the desk top speakers. The sound is round (i.e. not flat), true to life and clear. It can be pretty loud, so I keep the computer's mike very low to keep the sound down.
Summary: Have purchased several items from Cambridge the last five years with disappointing results. I purchased 7 speakers for a home entertainment center, and in less than 5 years two of them have failed. One was replaced under warranty and one I had to pay for. Less than three years ago I purchased a 3 piece system which I use for a pc.
Summary: I bought this speaker system almost a month ago. The sound quality is very good. The sound is rich and full (this is also due to setting the equalizer the way you like it). I used to have a $20 speaker system that I bought in China while I was going to school there. That one was pretty good, but this Cambridge system is outstanding. A very good investment for the business.
Summary: I bought a bass cube computer speaker 8 watt system for $200 about two years ago. the amp in the cube blew. Cambridge said it needed to be replaced for about $150. This unit was played less than 50 hrs yet I was told this is a reasonable but short life span. Sorry I expect better. Cambridge offered a 10% discount on a new one, the next customer service rep offered nothing except to say a new owner said they were losing money and had to change policies. Short sighted.
Summary: I just switched to these speakers and wow! What a difference. I love the sound quality and the convenient volume control. I use to be confined to my study to listen to the computer sound but now I can hear them anywhere by using the volume control on the speakers. I love the speaker's tiny size, I now have more room around my computer. The sub-woofer is sitting on the floor under the desk is out of the way.
