Bowers & Wilkins MM-1

PC Magazine
6 October 2010
  • Conclusion: Hardly an overpriced design piece, the Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 is a fantastic pair of high-end PC speakers worth saving up for.
  • Pros: Stellar audio performance with excellent clarity in mid and high frequencies. Laudable bass response without a subwoofer. Pulls audio from USB port for cleaner signal. Remote can control iTunes on your PC.
  • Cons: Expensive. Remote control is awkward to hold. Cables could be longer.

Bowers & Wilkins Brings Desktop Bling With These Sweet Speaks

Wired
19 April 2010
  • Excerpt: If you crave luxury and fine-tuning, you might have once thought that desktop speakers weren’t for you. Those fancy, overpriced floor speakers teetered at the top of your must-have list (and budget) for years. Well, now the overlords of audio at B&W have finally brought their signature combination of sonic virtuosity and aesthetic awesomeness to the home office.
  • Pros: Terrific sound across the entire spectrum. Included remote lets you control volume and jump between tracks (iTunes and Windows Media Player only). Inputs concealed beneath speakers (peekaboo!). Coffee-mug-sized footprint.
  • Cons: Sound isn’t quite as bold as M-Audio’s AV 40s’ — a bit muffled at higher volumes. Not cheap.

B&W MM-1

What Hi-Fi?
6 February 2011
  • Excerpt: Put someone in a blindfold and sit them at your desk; play Please Read The Letter from the Robert Plant/Alison Krauss collaboration Raising Sand through a pair of B&W MM-1s, and then ask them to tell you what kind of system they’re listening to. Chances are they’ll say many things before they utter the words, “a pair of PC speakers”. Premium product, musical sound These compact, stylish speakers have won an Award for the past two years with good reason.
  • Pros: Stylish, compact, weighty, detailed sound, well balanced across the frequency range
  • Cons: Pricey, lacking a little drama compared with others

Bowers & Wilkins MM-1

CNET
1 June 2010
  • Summary: We found a lot to like about the Bowers & Wilkins MM-1 multimedia speakers, but their price tag gives us pause.
  • Pros: Slick, modernist design, Well-balanced, detailed sound, Punchy bass, Remote control included, Digital connection via USB to computer
  • Cons: Extraordinarily expensive, Audio quality isn't as good when you move out of the sweet spot (three feet away from speakers), Sound is so detailed it makes MP3s and streaming audio of already iffy quality sound worse
