If you crave luxury and fine-tuning, you might have once thought that desktop speakers weren’t for you. Those fancy, overpriced floor speakers teetered at the top of your must-have list (and budget) for years. Well, now the overlords of audio at B&W have finally brought their signature combination of sonic virtuosity and aesthetic awesomeness to the home office. Read more

    • Sound isn’t quite as bold as M-Audio’s AV 40s’ — a bit muffled at higher volumes. Not cheap.

According to reviews, the two-channel MM-1 speaker system from British speaker maker Bowers & Wilkins delivers audiophile sound quality for PC users. Reviewers praise the music quality, with its highly accurate sound reproduction, which is helped by the onboard digital-to-audio (DAC) technology. Bass integrates well with the other ranges, but there's no subwoofer, so action movies, games and bass-heavy music may suffer. Read more

    • Great sonic detail and clarity, Elegant design
    • Expensive, Optimized for close-range listening

The MM-1 are a bit like a stereo version of the Focal XS speakers. In spite of their small size, they deliver exceptional-quality sound. They won't, however, fill a whole room with sound and are best used at your computer. Read more

    • Minimalist but practical design, Excellent, crisp, clean well-balanced sound, Can handle low frequencies with no separate subwoofer
    • Need to be positioned correctly for a decent overall experience

If you're in need of a great pair of computer speakers, look no further. These bad boys are worth every penny and have a hell of a punch. Sleek, modern style is a huge plus for me. These look phenomenal right next to my macbook pro. As far as sound, these crush everything else I've heard clarity wise. I was skeptical since they were only a 2.0 system and not 2.1, but they have plenty of bass to keep the heavy drive going. Read more

These things are very expensive, no doubt. But the sound is so precise and clear, that it is probably just about worth it, if you are a perfectionist :) Despite their size the speakers sound amazingly balanced. Although it is not a 'big' sound like a set of full-sized hi-fi speakers, they have a detail and warmth that is startling. Before I got these I tried B&W's Zeppelin Air which people also rave about. I've bought two pairs of these speakers in the past year which I feel is testament to their amazing quality of sound but I have found a much better use for them. In a world currently obsessed with the thinness of TVs I'd like to highlight the absolutely horrid, tinny audio that 99% of them produce due to their ever-shrinking cavities. Read more
