Summary: I have a had Boston Acoustics PC speakers before....and for their size they were pretty impressive. So, when I bought my new Mac Pro, I decided to give the Horizon series a try. Setup was pretty generic and straight forward...no surprises there. But when I hit them with my first iTunes song....WOW, what a surprise. They are as smooth as silk...no harshness, or artificial boost of any part of the sound. The bass is rock solid..
Summary: I'm just going to add to the already stellar reviews here. My fiance has the Logitech Z-2300 2.1 speakers, and I have these. Let me compare the two. The Logitechs are definitely much louder, and have much more bass. The sub is about twice as big as the MM226. The Logitechs are lacking badly in the midrange, and after listening at loud volumes for a while, I suffer from listening fatigue. The MM226 are much more balanced (especially in the mids) and sound much cleaner.
Summary: I am extremely satisfied with my purchase I made about 3 months ago. These replaced my 2.1 speaker set that came with my Dell that I should have replaced years ago. All ranges of sound are excellent. I would buy these again.
Summary: As in any speaker they take time to break in. 40 hours is usually what most recommend. These seemed to take longer. Maybe b/c of the smaller drivers. Even so, they work well. The sound is excellent for the price I paid. It took some tweaking but I am very happy with them.
Summary: For the price this system gives a lot of range. It can really thump for music but has the clarity to deliever as an effective system for laptop movie watching. I have a set up where my laptop plays on the hd tv and the sound (this system) is hooked up to the laptop for sound. It works quite nicely. It is very sleek and the sub looks different but it is a nice small package that can be placed out of the way.
Summary: After reading through a lot of reviews on speakers in the sub-$100 price range, I settled on this nice set of Boston Acoustics. I have to agree with what the other reviewers have said -- very crisp and clear mids and highs, and deep, undistorted bass that's good enough for my musical tastes. I like the looks of these speakers as well; they look sharp next to my 23" black LCD.
Summary: I purchased some computer speakers from Radio Shack for convience, but was instantly dissapointed when I hooked them up. So I went online to Amazon to see what I could find for a few dollars more. I had a Boston Acoustics surround sound system for my home a few years ago and new the quality was good, so I ordered this Horizon MM2 Multimedia 2.1 speaker system...Works great, and real solid bass response...I recommend fully.
Summary: I was torn betweon the BA speakers and the HK Soundsticks. I chose these because of the good reviews and price, and because the HK's look pretty dated now (think iMac) and would look funny next to my glossy black monitor. The BAs fit well with my desktop aesthetic and no not draw your eye, which is a good thing in my opinion for desktop speakers. Lest you think from the above that the look is all the matters to me, my PC is the center of my entertainment universe.
Summary: I bought these speakers in early May 2009. When I saw the price, $49.99 I knew it was a great deal. Boston Acoustics has a great reputation. I had no idea they made computer speakers. I ordered them, plugged them into my computer, and I have been throughly satisfied. I watch a lot of stuff from netflix and the speakers handle the sound wonderfully well. I love watching action movies and anime. The subwoofer does a great job of making you feel like you are in the movie.
Summary: 6-10-2010 Update: I absolutely love these speakers. The sound, quality, look of these just can't be beat! I bought these one week ago for $65 with free shipping. 24 hours later the price went to $80 and now the price is $150! What is going on with the price on these speakers? Anyway, they are fantastic and the build quality is top of the line. The sound is amazing! The control unit has a on/off switch, smooth volume control and input and headphone jack.
