PRODUCT WAS RETURNED

LesS, Crutchfield
10 November 2012
  • Summary: Product arrived very well packaged. Speakers were quality made--heavy wood with nice black finish, wiring had gold connectors, set-up was straightforward and flawless. All signs of a satisfactory purchase! These do have their own amplifiers, so I jacked them into my Macbook Pro. Unfortunately, the highs were not crisp and the overall sound was somewhat muddy. I was suprised that my original low-cost speakers surpassed them.
  • Pros: Well packaged/protected Nice looking, good quality appearance Reasonable price
  • Cons: Mediocre sound quality no provision to adjust base/trebel or "tone"

a huge let down

DJ Lando, B&H Photo

  • Excerpt: These speakers sounded great at lower volumes and looked great, but once I turned them up they began clipping and sounded awful. Not worth the price at all. I recommend going with a stereo instead these desktop speakers.
  • Pros: Attractive Design
  • Cons: Poor Sound Quality, Weak Bass

  • Summary: decided to buy into the audioengine a2 after hearing lots of hype. +small size +discreet, understated looks +volume to fill medium sized room +very nice quality build (body, volume knob, connections) -rear volume control -limited low frequency response (lower than stated) -low detail -MUDDY unboxing reaction: wow these things are SMALL! first listen reaction:wow these things sound muddy/muted! the mid-lows are sloppy, and the high end seems missing or highly attenuated.

Audioengine A2+

Fred, Crutchfield
15 June 2008
  • Summary: Great Detail, and clarity, but no matter how I positioned the speakers I was unable to created a proper sound stage or imaging. Its sounded like I was listening to a very good system in a large arena or stadium. My cheaper Klipsch computer system created a better sound stage with the vocals clearly identified in the center of the sound stage.
  • Pros: Great detail
  • Cons: poor sound stage

Not great

harrisd, Amazon
26 December 2010
  • Summary: Have had these a couple of months now and have tried them with different sources and in different places to try and get some decent sound out of them. Have given up on them now. Yes they are small and they can go loud but that seems to be it. For me they give too much bass and just don't sound good.
