Summary: The speakers in my MacBook Pro went bad. Instead of getting them repaired I decided just to get a good pair of external speakers that run on the usb port. These speakers work great and sound great and love the carrying case because i travel a lot and it's very handy.
Beware. Manufacturer will not honor warranty unless on their list of authorized sellers.

Summary: The manufacturer Altec Lansing will NOT honor their 1 year warranty if the seller is not one of their "authorized retailers or resellers." I purchased the Altec Lansing VS2621 speaker system new on Amazon on Nov 1, 2012. Here is the link to the product on Amazon.com: Altec Lansing VS2621 2.1 Channel Speaker System . Today is Sept 10, 2013. The subwoofer, as has been reported by many other reviewers began to emit a loud humming noise even with no inputs connected.
I am purchasing another pair for a family member. Great portable sound-

Summary: Overall great sound - Nicely made - Good quality Would recommend the XT1s to anyone that needs good sound quality that is portable. I take the XT1s w/me now when I travel. Their sound output puts the normal laptop speakers to shame.
Summary: I was looking for a truley portable speaker system to pack in my carry-on, which would deliver good sound quality, not weigh a ton, nor take up a cubit when packed. I've several Altec Lansing products for my home and portable iTunes collections, and the sound profiles are pleasing to my ears. (My ears also like some of the JBL products, Bose, and Harmon-Karden, if this helps.) The ONLY disappointment I have with these is that they're not as loud as I would've liked.
Summary: I bought these speakers about 4 years ago when they came out for $150.The sound quality is good but they are barely louder than the laptop speaker itself. If you like loud music then these are not for you. They also have the option of getting a big bass tower from altec lansing for an extra $50.
Summary: It is a very good product. Suits exactly my needs! It seems that i need to write a novel about this. Good product, easy to use, very decent sound. I strongly recommend it!! Hmmmm, what else? It's great in the morning to watch the new with these speakers...
Summary: No longer available from Altec Lansing, the XT1 was superseded by the XT2, a much inferior product that required a separate subwoofer (no longer available) to provide the same range as the XT1's. If you can find a pair, buy them. They are still the best travel speakers around. Great sound. Nice carrying case. No external power source required. Only "con" is that the design is rather "tippy" and requires a solid surface to avoid falling over at times.
