Summary: The manufacturer Altec Lansing will NOT honor their 1 year warranty if the seller is not one of their "authorized retailers or resellers." I purchased the Altec Lansing VS2621 speaker system new on Amazon on Nov 1, 2012. Here is the link to the product on Amazon.com: Altec Lansing VS2621 2.1 Channel Speaker System . Today is Sept 10, 2013. The subwoofer, as has been reported by many other reviewers began to emit a loud humming noise even with no inputs connected.
Summary: Upon arrival I hooked the speaker set up per the box instructions and played a minute or two each of many songs. I played both MP3 and FLAC, Rock and Country. I am not a sound techie but this was harsh. I turned the bass down full with the control knob and then with the player's "Graphic Equalizer" in addition to the control knob still being turned down. I understand a punch when it is supposed to be there but this is constant. The volume knob was never above half.
Summary: DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME. it is an epic fail. I got screwed by Amazon and the seller on this. The bass is muddy, and it's a shame, because i really like Altec lansing, i still have a discontinued model that work great and have great sound. thinking that these were going to out shine them....nope. Even with the Treble and Bass options, the bass is just muddy.
Summary: my last review of this product was practically worshipful. i was listening to music one day, with the beautiful sound quality these speakers do deliver when they work. suddenly i heard a sharp screech, and within half a second the subwoofer and speakers began emanating the most annoying, booming, screaming sound i've ever heard. it would only stop when i turned them off and unplugged them. truly disheartened, i loved these speakers.
Summary: The first set of speakers had incompatible connections with the bass and so it was replaced. The second set had compatible connections but was 220-240 V not 120V as would be expected in the US. It appears that the company is not paying attention to what they ship out.
Summary: It's not my style to write bad reviews, but this one is highly warrented. When I chose these speakers it was not without my research. 1 out of 10 reviewers said "save your money" the others spoke of a sweet spot to set the controls and enjoy the rich tones and sounds of your favorite music or even gaming sounds. I was sold and could not wait to find this sweet spot which I was sure would be any setting for my old and tired ears.
Summary: I bought this set of Altec Lansing speakers for bedroom use while hooked up to an iPhone. They worked fine for about 10 months, then when I moved them, the sub has a humming noise that I cannot get rid of. My last pair of Altecs had a bad circuit board after a couple of years of use. I expect speakers to last a little longer than this. After searching other people's Altec problems on the Internet, I have concluded that Altec has resorted to cheap internal components.
Summary: I bought this set for my desktop computer to replace a cheap set that came with the purchase of the computer. We have a 15 year old Altec Lansing computer speaker system with subwoofer attached to my wife's computer and they are fantastic so I thought that after 15 years, a new Altec Lansing speaker system would be at least as good as the old set. NOT! These speakers are absolutely horrible. They are muddy sounding.
Summary: Let me start off with the fact I love music, I listen to it all the time. It is my job as well as I do all of the public addresses, social events, and internal meeting setups for my company. I bought this set for my office to replace an existing Dell speaker system with a faulty wire set in the sub that the company had. I ended up bringing my system from my kitchen in to work while I ordered a different system.
Summary: I recently purchased both the Altec Lansing Octane 7 and the Creative Inspire T10 2.0 Multimedia Speaker System with BasXPort Technology . I agree with the other reviewers that the sound from the Octane is muffled at best. No matter how I adjust the treble and bass, the sound coming out seems more like noise than music. It simply lacks clarity. On the other hand, the much cheaper T10 sounds much better with its crystal clear sound despite the fact that it is only 2.0.
