Summary: It took quite a while to get all the parts I needed to be able to connect it to the electronic keyboard that I bought it for, but now that I have them, the system works very well. The extra volume and depth of sound I'm able to get from my instrument is amazing. It should be pointed out that this particular item is NOT US COMPATIBLE and should come with a mains adaptor. Mine didn't so there was a considerable time delay before I could even try it out.
recently dusted this set off and it is still nice...

Summary: This Altec system replaced an older Altec which I used for a year, then it failed. It was a shame as it was a great sounding set of speakers. These did suffer from "mid-drop" but it can be mitigated with EQ. Also, I'm using the set in my bathroom to have a system to listen to while dressing, bathing, etc. I placed the satellites high on a porous wicker shelf and the mids are there, now! Not bad for a six-year old set is what I say.
Summary: I am not a demanding audiophile. But adding this to my computer makes watching videos, YouTube and just plain music very enjoyable. I have the speakers next to my computer screen and the woofer is on the floor. I've had this unit for 6 months or so, and it's still working great. No problem. Easy to install. Extremely simple to use.
Summary: I bought these speakers mainly to play music from my computer, and they do the job. The auxiliary inputs in the back of the bass speaker is an added bonus. The only complaint that I have is that the bass can be quite overpowering, but that can be adjusted (to a certain degree) by changing the bass and treble settings on the speaker. I would strongly recommend this speaker system to anyone.
Summary: I purchased these speakers to use in my classroom. The ones I had, purchased by the school, made it difficult for students to hear videos or presentations. This purchase suits my purposes perfectly. The sound now fills the room and the students don't have to be whisper quiet to hear. Great!
Summary: I have been using Altec for about ten years. My old set had a subwoofer with an adjustment on the back, and this set does not. This set has bass that for myself is a bit too much. But after some adjustments to my Realtek sound card the sound is unbelievable. I myself is a person that has to hear to determine what sounds good. You can read all the consumer reports you want but until you listen to what your ears like you don't know.
Summary: These are very powerful, very loud speakers, but they have too much bass. That is to say too much bass for the mid and high output. Good thing for the seperate bass and treble controls. They are good looking, but I cannot rate them Excellent because I want more midrange output. I got a bargain on some used ones - I don't recommend them at MSRP.
Summary: These speakers get the job done. For a mere sixty dollars, these speakers deliver crisp, clean high tones and generally good tonal balance. The bass, however, is a bit muddy and the adjustment knob does not allow for precise control over the bass volume. Although the bass offers a full headbanging/grooving/dancing beat the sound lacks the cleanness of other sub-woofers. The build quality of system is excellent and it is straight-forward and easy to use.
