Summary: I bought these to replace my old 4.1 Klipsch system that sounded like pure magic while they lasted. The Klipsch system had control pod problems and the rubber around the sub speakers died a horrible death.
Summary: Looks nice. I have to unplug the system for about 30 minutes after an input spike. I have mixed feelings, but in some ways, at 60 years old and having gone through professional systems over the years, considering Altec Lansing's reputation it has gone down hill.
Pros: Decent sound. Control Pod has bass and treble control built in, a big plus.
Cons: 1. The 'pod' controller sucks. I can sorta understand the variable volume increase and decrease by how far you turn the controller (turn a little bit and volume slowly increases (or decreases) while turning the control "all the way" quickly provides *fast* response, but a simple dial level contro...
Summary: For the price, its a nice set. A few things that surprised me: The sub is HUGE. I should have looked closely at the dimensions. Based on the pictures I had it in my mind this was a compact (ish) set. I don't believe I have ever seen a sub this big, ever (at least one for PC).
Summary: Altec has few choices and quit making the FX4021/FX5051 speaker systems, in my opinion a huge mistake. They had remote controls, head phone jacks and so forth, a nice quiet amp and a fair price.
Pros: 200 Watts
Cons: Ugly design. Where's the wireless remote control for Two Hundred Dollaroo's?
Summary: I'm 54 years old and I wasn't looking for big bone rattling bass like most younger people today, but I also didn't think I would have to set my iPod EQ to the bass setting to get decent bottom end sound. For these speakers to sound good you need a full equalizer with at least 5 bands.
Summary: I am running Windows Media Player and using the graphic equalizer inside the app. playing high res mp3s. I am better than satisfied but certainly not overwelmed. They look better than any speakers I've seen but, the drivers and crossovers could use some work.
Pros: Yes, they look good and you need extra room on your desktop. The sound is great, not superb. I have tested them with everything from Pantera and Megadeth to Queen and Seal. They needed some tweaking. They seem to run well almost flat, I boosted the low end a few db. I was able to overrun the subw...
Cons: 200 bones is a little much, I saved some money at the NEX, $125 to $150 max! The crossovers should be adjusted, they are pushing to much base to the sats.
Summary: I purchaced this because of the other reviews commenting on the clarity and quality of the sound these produce, and because of the stlyish design. Having looked around at various reviews on the net, some were very positive and some were not.
Summary: About the sound, it's great, but there's a continuous electrical hum. When music runs you won't hear it but when there's no sound I've to shut the system down to get rid of this. But the lenght of the cable are really short.
