Summary: These looked awesome, but died during first use. I powered them on and was in the middle of playing a song. I went to turn up the volume and the power went out to the speakers and didn't come back. It may be a fluke, just a single defective part installed, but when I looked at the back of the speaker there was no fuse or other protective device built in as my old speaker set had. My original speakers were logitec and they served me well for over 10 years.
Summary: Five stars for excellent sound quality. But serious negative points for a CONSTANT FUZZY SOUND coming from the tweeters. The louder you turn the system the louder the fuzzy sound. Also the audio cable that came with the system was staticky so I had to buy a new one of those (unrelated to fuzz though). Seems Altec Lansing has some serious quality control issues.
Summary: I bought a set of these recently after testing for a few days I had to return it. The main factor I had to return it was the hum/hissing noise from the speakers. They are not from my soundcard as I disconnected them and the hum is still there. I tried to move them to different rooms using different power outlets, the noise stayed the same. These noise are very noticeable as they are louder than my computer fans.
Summary: I have to say that this product was a love-hate relationship but ended up being boxed back up and returned. I've been spending quite some time researching a good speaker system for my office and this model came up. It's a new model (Sep'09ish) and was purchased in October and very few places have reviews out for this let alone pictures (thanks to the person who submitted photos on Amazon!).
