Summary: The quality of this product really depends on what you want from it. If you want perfect sound with no disappointments whatsoever then you will want to get a high quality speaker like Bose. If you want something better than the original speakers on your device then this will work for you. I'm a movie fanatic. I stream movies on my Samsung R580 laptop and I generally watch them at home. Some movies are loud and I don't need an external speaker.
Summary: Contrary to other viewers reports, it worked beautifully with my iMac desktop immediately. However, maybe because it was a desktop and not a notebook or a laptop the sound on my computer was not improved by much.
Summary: After reading the reviews I am so glad that I chose this speaker. No problems with it whatsoever. The volume is amazing. I actually keep it between level 3 or 4 and that is moderately loud. This speaker works wells on my Dell and my Toshiba mini laptops. The storage case for the speaker is an added bonus. I am really enjoying listening to my music and watching movies or TV shows from my laptop. This speaker certainly gets the job done.
Summary: I have tried four different mini-speakers: The Altec mini USB, its battery powered sibling, the iHome iHM60PT, and the Jambox. Although the price has shot up on the Altec mini USB recently, it is the best of the group and I recommend it highly. The construction and look are excellent and the protective case is a real plus (wish the case had a perforated bottom). It does take some fiddling to get it set up through the USB, but once done, the speaker is very good.
Summary: First of all, be careful when ordering, as there seem to be a lot of listings from different sources for these speakers, and the prices are ALL OVER the place. You should be paying under thirty-five bucks (I paid under thirty). The different listings also come with different accessories. The speaker I got for the lowest price on Amazon INCLUDED the wrist strap (which is useless) and the neoprene case with a carabiner clip (the case is actually snug and quite nice).
Summary: Compact USB connected single speaker was just the ticket for a dorm room where space is at a premium, and lots of volume not needed. Connection was very simple - basically just plug and play, and requires just the one, included, USB cable, which stores inside the unit when not in use. Sound quality is superior to built in speakers, but you give up stereo - there's just one speaker, after all.
Summary: I have the battery powered version of this product, and was impressed by the sound it produced.Others have commented how well it works also. I thought I would give this a try for my laptop as a compact travel companion that does not need batteries. It is surprising how well these are made. A metal grill, aluminum stand, rubber feet and a soft case with lanyard and caribiner were nice to see.
Summary: This little speaker is easy to use, easy to store and the sound is wonderful. My computer speakers used to be on the highest possible volume just to track with the conversations during video streaming. Now, my computer volume is set to one or two. Such a small investment and such a large return. We've let several friends hear the difference and they're getting their own Altec. Thanks. Great Product.
Summary: I bought this and the M227 at the same time. This speaker has a sturdier feel to it as well as a more balanced output. I felt it handles the highs and mids with much more clarity than the M227. Granted it likely does this as the volume is lower on this device than the M227 and thus gets less distortion. Overall, recommend. Please see my review for the M227 for the video comparison.
