Summary: OK. I ordered these February 2008. They sound great. However, since day one the speaker plug-in ports on the sub woofer have had connectivity problems. I've had to wiggle my sub woofer or the wires themselves to actually get the sound to come through. This leads me to believe they are cheaply made. On another note the "power on" button on the control box has recently had response issues.
Summary: Very clean sound and enough power for a good sized room. Set up was very easy and the controler is well designed. A 90 degree plug for the front headphones "out" on most laptops helps keep the wire out of the way. I had to run around some to find one and it was in a set so had to pay a bit to much. Including one would be nice but not that big a deal. SOUNDS GREAT!
Summary: I have to say that I love this product. I am not an audiophile, but enjoy music nonetheless. To date, I have purchased 3 sets of these for my home. Each set supports a computer in the house - two teenage daughters and my wife. The sound quality is excellent and the speakers can easily fill a room with sound. The subwoofer puts out well. Overall, I love this model and would highly recommend it.
Summary: This is not a particularly great sounding set of speakers, but, hey, you don't get great sound for $49 (guess I caught them on sale). The intended use was to supplement the built-in speakers on my TV. One of the satellites developed an annoying rattle after being in use for a short while, so I discontinued using them, but am still using the subwoofer. The subwoofer adds a lot - a LOT - to the movie viewing experience.
Summary: Just bought these speakers for our bedroom flat screen TV. The sound is perfect for a small room. All the talk about the bass being too booming is way off. I found that the bass/treble was very easy to set any way you like. Did have a small hook-up glitch at first, but worked it out. I had bought a 3.5 to RCA cord at Radio Shack, as suggested by many. No sound. Called Altec Cust. Support and although they were nice and spent time troubleshooting, no sound.
Summary: For over a decade I have had a Monsoon speaker/subwoofer system attached to my computer(s). Recently one of the channels has gotten flaky. I saw this Altec-Lansing system on Amazon for a remarkable price. The reviewers seemed to love them, and the speakers were smaller, which would save some space on my desk, so I went for it. Unfortunately, not all ears are created equal, and I really hate the sound of these speakers.
