Summary: For some reason I thought these speakers would be about half the size they are. Final dimensions are 5"long x 4"tall x 3" wide. Nice speakers for a desktop, decent sound. Wasn't looking for Bose-quality, just something smaller than what I had, and these are just slightly smaller. Perhaps I missed the dimensions notice? My fault if I did, and they're certainly serviceable speakers, just not tiny. Oh well, still decent.
Summary: I purchased the Altec lansing BXR1220 speakers to use with my mac laptop. Mistake. The speakers just don't work with my macbook at all - they don't work in the speaker jack and they don't exactly fit into the headphone jack - they will if you work at it, but the reward you get for your efforts is a very low sound that is quieter than my built-in speakers. So pretty pointless. Having said that, I tried them with my daughter's Chrome Book and the were great.
Summary: I got these speakers for a flat screen Vizio tv that we use on vacation. The speakers are a great improvement over the tv's system and the cost was so little that I couldn't be happier with the outcome. They are not top of the line, but they are fine for my purposes.
The Altec Lansing BXR1220 - Affordable USB Powered Bare Bones 2.0 Speakers, But Still Not Travel Friendly

Summary: Altec Lansing's BXR1220s are not designed for those who want audiophile quality sound. So far, the sound has not really improved much over the past few weeks after breaking these in for long stretches. Considering the price it's hard to get too demanding in the sound department. Relative to many similarly priced speakers these are a small step up, and they will more than suffice for an extra computer in a guest bedroom.
