Summary: I bought the speakers because my daughter's laptop had what has to be the WORST sound card ever invented. She wanted to watch movies and could but you couldn't hear a thing. These filled the bill. Wonderful sound quality and no need for a seperate power source since you get the power via 2 usb ports. I liked them so much I bought another pair for my tv.
Summary: You get what you pay for with the speakers: sound. That's all I can really say comes out of these speakers, there's no depth to them, if you have really bass-heavy music I don't recommend playing it with these speakers, actually any music for that matter. The highs come out pretty faded with these speakers as well. SO, if all you want is to be able to hear sound on your computer, these speakers are perfect for that, occasional youtube vids, etc.
Summary: I've been in music forever, both as a musician and home recording. I was amazed at the volume of sound that came from these. And the sound is pretty good. There's bass, but the mids and highs are kind of muffled. But it's way better than using the speakers on my Mac. Good for watching tv shows or for doing presentations in a small to mid-sized room.
Summary: I bought a desktop and needed some speakers. I didn't need quality, just wanted basic sound so I bought these. They are small, USB powered (so no outlet needed) and have a big sound range. For the price, they have surprisingly good sound. Remember: these are not for an audiophile or for someone looking for good quality sound.
Summary: I was so sick of the low sound quality from my 13inch MacBook Pro. Lets face it, it's not built for amazing movie/video watching experiences. These speakers were perfect! Granted they are a little large; I found the perfect spot for them so they don't take up valuable real estate on my desk. It was easy to setup and install and there was no reason to configure anything in the sound settings. I was able to "plug and go".
Summary: I bought these speakers because I wanted mini laptop speakers that were powered by a USB connection. Well these babies cost me 15 bucks so I figured they would be OK. When I hooked them up I was blown away by the quality of the sound. The highs are very impressive and the bass of course does not rattle the room but it does put out a full sound that makes these speakers a no-brainer if you want mini speakers.
The Altec Lansing BXR1220 - Affordable USB Powered Bare Bones 2.0 Speakers, But Still Not Travel Friendly
Mark "Technology, Music and Movies", Amazon
19 April 2014
Summary: Altec Lansing's BXR1220s are not designed for those who want audiophile quality sound. So far, the sound has not really improved much over the past few weeks after breaking these in for long stretches. Considering the price it's hard to get too demanding in the sound department. Relative to many similarly priced speakers these are a small step up, and they will more than suffice for an extra computer in a guest bedroom.
