OK for $

  • Excerpt: I've had Alesis Monitor One MKII for about 16 years and always loved them. Gave these a try and they are OK for eighty bucks. The low end is muddy and mid range thick, but for PC based music they're cool for the price.I would NEVER use these for ANY kind of mixing or mastering, these are just good toy speakers.
  • Pros: Easy To Use
  • Cons: Poor Sound Quality

Great little speakers

  • Excerpt: I am using these speakers as desktop speakers for my PC. Setting them up was easy. You hook them up via USB and can use them immediately. The sound is good enough for my purposes. However, as monitors for serious home recording (mastering) I would not recommend them since they fall short in the bass/lower spectrum. No suprise when you take the size of the woofers into consideration. Mid and highs are good, though. Hence, the 4 stars only.

Awesome sound in a small package

27 February 2013
  • Excerpt: I'm a professional radio producer and I run a small community radio station. Audio editing is a part of my daily life. Living on shoestring budget is also a reality. I needed to replace a pair of aged computer speakers with a sub woofer. I wanted something that wouldn't eat up a lot of real estate but most importantly gave me the audio clarity I need for voice or music editing.

Great Little Speakers

  • Excerpt: I bought these speakers to be able to accurately hear DJ mix from my computer. Set up was a breeze. My macbook pro recognized these speakers without a problem. I was listening sound from them not even two minutes after taking them out of box. What is also nice that one can connect an audio input to the back and record music into a computer. Only drawback is that there is no pre-amplifier inside so one has to run a guitar through additional piece of equipment.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Compact, Durable, Easy To Use, Versatile

Very good quality for the price

  • Excerpt: I'm a musician and a formated acoustician, this product fits to my needs(not the professionals !). The response of these speakers is great, exept if you're looking for huge bass... But for playing music, it is perfect, really. I used it with a tonelab and it's powerful. You can't play with a drummer, but with 1 or 2 guitarists it's OK.

Nice highs and mids, really poor bass

  • Excerpt: I'm using these speakers for studio recording/monitoring and casual music-listening. I had high hopes, but was somewhat disappointed by these. I guess "you get what you pay for". Physically, the speakers are a hard plastic and look and feel rather cheap. Sound-wise, I found the highs and high-mids to sound really nice and crisp, but the mid-lows are WAY too loud in comparison to the rest of the mix, even with the bass boost setting off.

Alesis M1Active 320 USB Stereo Monitoring System

18 April 2011
  • Excerpt: At my job at a post production video company, we have Alesis speakers set up for all the edit booths. The sound was always great so when I decided I wanted to some speakers for myself, I went straight for Alesis . I didn’t have too much money so I bought their lowest priced one - the M1Active 320 USB set - off of Amazon I believe. I got them, basically plugged the USB cable into my computer, and behold great sound came out.

Broken after just 1 year. Dissapointed

30 November 2010
  • Excerpt: Only 12 months after I bought a pair of these (exactly when the 1 year warranty expires!), the left speaker on a regular basis, after just a few minutes of listening at moderate volumes, dropped down in level by about 10db below the output of the right speaker, causing a severe and distracting balance issue, that can only be remedied by turing the volume knob way up on the right speaker (the speaker which houses all the inputs, outputs, and amplifier stages).
  • Pros: Easy To Use
  • Cons: Breaks Easily, Unreliable

Compact Powerful

  • Excerpt: I almost didn't buy these due to a previous reviewer. I got a chance to listen and compare alongside a number of $100ish powered speakers at another store. The complaint about heavy bass is mute, now there is a bass boost switch, just flip it off. The bass is tight and punchy. They're perfect for traveling as they fit in a small backpack with my netbook and portable keyboard.
