A special gift

Timothy D., Newegg
27 January 2010
  • Summary: I've used ghost since Ghost 2003 and it only keeps getting better
  • Pros: If you let this software do what it's suppose to do, you'll never have a problem you can't get out of. Need an extra hard drive to really make it work
  • Cons: Trying to backup on DVD's just makes life more difficult

Ghost 14.0

Robert R., Newegg
14 January 2010
  • Summary: The whole process took 20mins!!! Good stuff!! I've always liked Norton products!!
  • Pros: Worked great!! Cloned my old 20gb hard drive to a 160gb hard drive without a hitch!!!
  • Cons: It's a little confusing to clone the drive but I opened a chat session with Norton and they help me through it.

It Makes Me Happy

Derek B., Newegg
10 November 2009
  • Summary: Look, backup and recovery software is less than sexy for sure for sure. That said, this is the sexiest I've used. If easy to use is your only consideration, I would skip this tool.
  • Pros: Creates backups and can be recovered from not only from catastrophic disasters but even from 'oops' moments like when a bunch of stuff is accidentally deleted. Cool utilities to move to a bigger drive, create virtual machines, backup only what changed, et cetera. Sort of a pro tool for home users...
  • Cons: It is a little tricky and the documentation can be vague. I've had some trouble backing up drives that have bad spots and it won't play nice with Windows 7 (hope that is fixed in the v.15). In v12, there was a glitch where the backups would silently not happen because there was no room available ...

Garbage!!!!

Robert C., Newegg
6 November 2009
  • Summary: I should have listened to the advice of the negative reviewers and stayed far away from this version of the Ghost software, but my old 2003 Ghost software always worked so well <sigh>. Too bad this new software is so horrible!!!!! BUYER BEWARE!!!!
  • Pros: It comes in a pretty yellow box.
  • Cons: It takes forever, trying over and over again, before you can finally get the software to connect to the software server for updates. Then when they finally download, they won't install <sigh>. I tried doing a copy on my Vista laptop and that failed too because it said the partition was in use <si...

Sorry, problems are the operator

Robert M., Newegg
3 November 2009
  • Summary: I am reading other people's comments and am stunned by the lack of knowledge of other users. I admit, sometimes you have to edit the boot.ini file or check the "restore MBR" checkbox when restoring a hard drive but this is not the fault of the software!
  • Pros: Has saved my client PCs and my own PCs a countless number of times. Very useful to backup entire drives, or just certain files. Works great when trying to upsize from one drive to another. This is a big upgrade from Ghost 10 as it allows you to backup files as well as entire drives.
  • Cons: Sometimes you have to be computer literate to use the program.

Norton Ghost 14

Fred T., Newegg
26 September 2009
  • Summary: Had major problems with Norton Internet Security Suite also; Old version failed to fully remove to allow install of newer version. Without full removal of older version newer version of Norton Internet Security Suite will not install, and older version will not re-install.
  • Pros: None, total junk. Almost unusable by the average buyer, if it works. Overly complex, and unreliable, with no real tech support.
  • Cons: Bought it, tried to use it, found Norton Ghost 14 to be virtually worthless, after paying extra for the recovery ISO Image and long term support (Uhhhhh...Extra for the recovery image ISO file and full support for the life of the license!), and Norton's so-called "Tech Support" is totally worthle...

Terrible

Daryl C., Newegg
15 September 2009
  • Summary: Beware this software if you want to clone your drive.
  • Pros: Overseas tech support is suprisingly good.
  • Cons: All I wanted was to make a clone of my current drive onto another larger drive so I could swap them. No dice. The cloned drive won't boot when installed. Documentation is poor and tech support had to walk me thru several little tricks in order to even make a disk image (kept failing at the very e...

Disliked

Anonymous, Newegg
12 September 2009
  • Summary: Too many bells and whistles that compared to v11 it made doing what were simple tasks a pain in the neck.
  • Pros: Ghost has been a mainstay of mine for many years.
  • Cons: Upgraded to v14. Used it for a while then returned it to Symantec (admittedly I got my money back). So dissatisfied, I went back to using Ghost v 11. Guess I forgot the colloquialism "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Utter Crud

Allan C., Newegg
13 August 2009
  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Has to be installed to use. Is a backup solution, not an imaging solution. Bootable CD allows you to do almost nothing (even checkdsk is the standard one included with DOS/Windows).
