Summary: After being retired from IT for over four years decided to get back into action. The 32 bit version works on a old hp mini, for older machines would not recommend the metro screen, The 64bit version is awesome on new desktops & laptops that I removed XP-Pro, and installed 8.1 from scratch.
Summary: I do like windows 8 but I am very disappointed with the fact that for the price it is only usable on one, yes I said ''ONE" computer! No more using it on two or more of your own personal computers. You have to purchase one for every computer you own!
Summary: While I could not install it, my son who is training in IT could. If you are very good with this kind of thing go for it. My install was from XP to 8.1 which is more difficult. Remember it erases all your data so backup backup backup. Good luck.
Summary: I am impressed how fast Windows 8.1 runs on my old computer, 3ghz Pentium D.. It seems at least 50% quicker than when Windows 7 Premium was installed. I also like how this just installs Windows and no other trial programs, I only have two icons on my desktop. Since I really hate the way Windows 8.1 works I did download "Start is Back", it is a $3 app that makes Windows 8.1 look and feel just like Windows 7, or XP if I chose XP.
Summary: Coming from windows 95 through to windows 7 was a progression. Much of what you had from the former OS continued on. This is different, but not radically so. The start menu takes some getting use to. Things are put in different places then they were, but there not overly hard to find. It took me about an hour to figure where things were placed.
Excerpt: Oem Edition was easy to install. Runs fast, especially if you use an ssd as your main. My current boot up time is under 20 seconds. 8.1 allows you to use the desktop straight away vs the start menu that can be a bit annoying to deal with initially.Only issue I have with this version of windows is that if by some chance an app get corrupted on the registry level, it can be almost impossible to get it working again even when you uninstall and reinstall the program.
Pros: Easy To Install, Easy To Navigate, Manages Software Collaboration Well
Works great and resolved my security issue with XP

Summary: I do not understand what so many people complain about other than change. It takes a little getting used to; but it is much faster than my 9 year old XP was on the same computer. Navigation is different; but not difficult.
Excerpt: I have heard mixed reviews about Windows 8 saying that it is unbearable to use. However, it works pretty much the same as Windows 7 - besides neater application arrangements and improved handling. As well as this, I accidentally ordered only the 32-bit version, yet B&H was quite understanding, handled the correction quickly, and maintained professional correspondence until the package was in my hands.
