  • Summary: Lost everything I had on my HD under XP Pro. (Yes, they warn you.) Touchscreen features get in the way since I do not have a touchscreen. Navigational nuisance. Would like to try Windows 7 instead. I run Windows under Parallels on my iMac for a couple of Windows-only applications that I need.

  • Summary: I would wait or windows 9 if you can. I had no choice and had to get 8.1 the GUI is clumsy and it's made for touch screens. I use it in desktop mode only. The "modern" apps that come with it are very basic and you feel as if you have little control. In desktop it runs rather well. Faster than 7 even. But at a cost. It looks very basic. no pretty Aero theme like 7 has. But, it works atleast and isn't bloated like vista was.

  • Summary: I'm sorry I ever purchased the product to upgrade from Windows XP. n hindsight I would have been better off upgrading to Windows 7 instead.

  • Summary: After 5 weeks "trying to use/learn" my new computer's W-8, I gave up and paid $250 to have it "downgraded" to Windows 7 ... love W-7, hate W-8. #$250 incl. $120 for new W-7# Have used PC's for 30 yrs, via ALL MS Windows products. It never took longer than a week to learn the software. What I did learn on W-8 mostly just slowed me down as I navigated around. Other than ease of use for those who have apps on their phones, pads, etc., I see no real value here.

  • Summary: Could not get activated over internet...after almost two hours on phone with tech support I decided to take a friends advise and format and reinstall and activate over phone which means unhook your Ethernet cable so it wont automatically want to activate over internet...after all that got activated first try!!! Microsoft needs to hire some folks who wrote the software to man the tech support!!! other than that all is finally good!!

  • Summary: Installation was a nightmare!!! After 9 hours and 3 phone calls to Microsoft it finally worked!! Just little disappointed being my laptop is almost 2 years old and is kept updated. Now that it is working, I really like the new look and the apps. This would really be cool with a touch screen computer (maybe on my next purchase)! Definitely a big change from Windows 7!

  • Summary: I bought Win. 8.1 as I like it on my tablet but was pretty disappointed when I installed it on my desktop. Firstly the tile screen is really made up of options that most of us will only use a few of. What irked me is that there are so many apps. that are always running and updating, news, sports, etc, I wondered if it would always be using my download speed for stuff I'd never look at.
