  • Summary: Copy is genuine but would not allow me to register. I WILL NEVER BUY ON EBAY AGAIN. Wasted my time for several day on microsoft tech support, even they unable to get it to take. Total loss.

Another drop of usability in MS Office

Larry G., Newegg
10 February 2014
  • Summary: I continue to find no other business software to be as good as Microsoft's, but Office 2013 is not Microsoft's best for desktop/laptop business users. Office 2003 Professional is very good for businesses and professionals (fast, stable, and easily learned), but Office 2007 was a major downgrade, Office 2010 basically just seemed to correct some of 2007's inappropriate layouts, and Office 2013 is another major plunge downward for usability and appearances.
  • Pros: This review is for the download version of Office 2013 Home and Business that I have installed for customers and myself.
  • Cons: The skin is simply intolerable for my eyes and personal preferences. I restore-down all apps in Office 2013 to enable a dark desktop 'border', but still the GUI has so little contrast between different commands that I quickly close the app and return to 2010. I like the spartan-like layout, but the eye strain is unacceptable. No software is worth the cost of a person's eyesight.

If you already have Office 2010, don't bother

Dean H., Newegg
27 June 2013
  • Summary: Office 2013 does not offer enough improvements to take on the hassle of moving to the new version (which I deliberately did not call "upgrading"). If you are already using the Office 2010 suite, deliberate carefully about both the expense and the subsequent tweaking it will take to get you back to the customization you like.
  • Pros: -Slightly streamlined interface...
  • Cons: -But "the ribbon" remains...

Not for Business/OEM use

Nathan J., Newegg
5 June 2013
  • Summary: I bought this license as the natural replacement for Office Home and Business 2010 on a new PC for a business. I can't install the program without first registering the product key in my name. That's no good for a system builder. As a network admin, I also like to be able to customize the installation of office (the accounting department doesn't need OneNote). This installer has only an all-or-nothing approach to Office.
  • Pros: Install is simple, but see cons.
  • Cons: No installation options. Forced SkyDrive integration. Requires Microsoft account.

Possibly the worst Office ever

Alexander K., Newegg
5 June 2013
  • Summary: I just cant believe Microsoft are continuing to tweak Office in a way that is counter-intuitive, convoluted, intrusive and downright unusable to the power user.
  • Pros: The document load time is a bit faster than its predecessor, maybe due to the flatter graphics.
  • Cons: Have to register @microsoft.com

no really, it is that bad.

Jonathan E., Newegg
20 March 2013
  • Summary: After working with Office 2013 for a couple months, we reinstalled 2010 alongside, and just don't use 2013 -- it really is a mess.
  • Pros: Believe it or not, there are a few pro's for Office 2013:
  • Cons: The Office 2013 interface is truly ugly and featureless. Gone are many of the important guides and indivators for basic open/edit/format/save functions. Even without checking the tablet-optimized interface options, the new UI wastes tons of screen space with oddly-placed whitespace and strangely spaced-out Ribbon. Many visual cues for what's clickable or not are gone, making it hard to choose menu items, or even grab window borders. Some active items change shading on...
