Update to "Do the Trial First"
West P., Newegg
13 December 2007
Summary: Since the first post. I bought the StarTech Fire Wire Card from New Egg, updated the Motherboad BIOS, tried putting in an IDE PCI card and saving video to an IDE drive rather than SATA. Uninstalled MaCafee, uninstalled Spy Sweeper. Used multiple firewire cables.
Pros: None so far
Cons: Problem has been while trying to capture video the software returns the error "The file is corrupted, unusable and will be automatically deleted."
Summary: I have been doing this type of stuff for my family for several years now. You have to strike a balance between creating/editing the videos on the computer and actually making the videos and living your life.
Pros: I am running Vista Home Premium 64 Bit. I tested several Media Editing packages before purchasing Studio 11 Plus (had been using Roxio 7.5 with WinXP – it is incompatible with Vista). Most did not work well (if at all) with 64 Bit Vista. The exception was Studio 11. So, by default, it won and I p...
Cons: More of a nuisance than anything, but, when my machine has to do some serious rendering, I will typically get a notice that Windows is not responding. But, after a few seconds, it kicks back in and the rendering is complete.
Summary: Version 8 works but 11 doesn't capture at all..so far. Unhelpful support. So down load the trial first. The bad new about the trial is.. if you buy the retail version you have to uninstall and reinstall, still it's better than getting burned.
Pros: Well, none so far since I can't get the software to capture video.
Cons: The sort of good news is you can download the product as a trial from Ulead (Corel Software). I was using Video Studio 8 which ran fine on my Core2Duo E6750 based system but wanted expanded capability. Using the Same Camcorder, same video clip, same firewire card, Video Studio 11 would capture fo...
Summary: It installed fine on my other XP machine. I think it's a problem with Vista....
Pros: Very powerful, nice surround sound editing and other effects.
Cons: Wouldn't install. I have Vista Ultimate and the dumb thing just won't install. I've had it for almost a week and i've been in conversation with both Windows Tech support and Corel Customer Service and we still can't get it working. I may have to send it back....
Cons: Problems with DVD import which was the reason why I bought it (to combine multiple user made DVDs into one). It would just crash with ntdll.dll error. Tech support was no help and was not patient.
