Summary: I've experimented with photoshop and will admit it's a powerful piece of software but it takes time and training. 90% of what can be done in photoshop can be done with paintshop pro at a fraction of the price and without months of training!
Pros: easy to use, can do most editing tasks, fun to make hdr photos, works with layers and raw files which is a big plus at this price point. Bought this during a sale for next to nothing (assuming my rebate comes through!)
Cons: I was first introduced to PSP 7 and was using PSP 9 before upgrading to X4. I actually miss the old layout and window color scheme. Also, sometimes instead of simply giving an error, the whole program decides to crash when you try to do something unintended like hdr merging tiff files.
Summary: Yep, a little bit of a pain, but I think this is one of the best photo editors around and have used it since JASC.
Pros: It's gonna be free after rebate!
Cons: Yes, it's a pain to install if using the trial version. In fact if you have a trial version, get rid of it by using windows to uninstall. Use the boxed install disc and enter the activation code as the serial when asked and include the dashes!
Summary: I have used Corel Paintshop Pro over many versions and this is the best so far. Some tools will only work with 8 bit color but a number of them have been updated for 16 bits. This is 16 bit per color for RGB that some call 48 bit where 8 bits x 3 is 24 bit total.
Pros: Has HDR and photo blend capability. Nice looking interface. Compatible with Akvis and Topaz and Redfield plugins. Handles RAW files pretty easily. Lots of tools for the intermediate and Pro user. Beginners can start simple on the Adjust tab and use the learning center to improve. Kept all importa...
Cons: Changed the tool icons to B&W , bring back the color. Have to click an Adjust button at the bottom to add adjustment layer. This use to be available as a right mouse click. Not a big deal but adds a little time to make new layer. Corel has been slow to fix bugs in the past. So far I have only enc...
Summary: Compared to other products on the market, Corel Paintshop Pro is easier to use. I have already recommended it to other friends. These individuals are not fully computer literate, but soon were able to carry out the basic functions within Corel Paintshop. And not only that.
