Summary: Paintshop should be okay if you want it to be your only photo editing software and if you don't need to install any add-ons. Corel doesn't specify which add-ons will or won't work with Paintshop Pro.
Pros: It's comparable to Adobe Photoshop Elements, but it has the advantage of 64-bit capability. It has layers and some other advanced features.
Cons: Unlike Elements, Paintshop doesn't appear to accept most brands of add-ons. One Nik add-on is included but my Nik suite wouldn't work with Paintshop. I already use Elements and I noticed that photos processed in Paintshop have their own unique file type and wouldn't open in Elements 10, so I quit using Paintshop. Corel doesn't specify which add-ons will or won't work in Paintshop.
Summary: Just to hard to understand, the advertisement suggest it was easy to use but it is not. We got several tech friends together and they still had problems figuring out how to use it, would not recommend even if it a lot cheaper than the $30 we paid.
Needed to replace my photo editing app from last century.

Summary: I am still learning and have referred to the tutorials and videos frequently. Corel also has pretty useful forums, where customers can assist each other and share tips and offer advice.
Pros: The learning curve is pretty gradual and I felt comfortable with the tools they provide pretty quickly. I just do basic photo editing and had been using (don't laugh) Microsoft PictureIt! 2.0 from 1999. It aged surprisingly well but began to have difficulty opening large picture files - including cell phone images. It was time for something new so I downloaded the trial of PaintShop Pro X6 after reading a shoot-out style review of photo editing applications. I liked i...
Cons: The frequency of the auto-save is driving me crazy. The application will not continue to work while auto-save is active. I have yet to find away to adjust it. Fortunately, you can hit ESC while it is happening to cancel the auto-save
X4 works on my new Windows 8 Computer! I saved $$$ by buying instead of X6.

Summary: Love this program. I used an older version for years but when I got a new computer with windows 8 I was not able to use it. PSP X4 works great! All i needed to do was go to the corel site and download the SP2 patch and PSP X4 worked! The price is so much better than X5 and X6 but the price was alot less as far as the difference between X4 and X6 they seem to be minimal.
Pros: Excellent photo editor and provided professional results for finishing touching up and modifying photos. Great for touching up old photos and creating graphics great for lettering and crafting scrap booking. Easy to use even for an amateur.
Pros: Might be great if you are comparing it to adobe.
Cons: Paint Shop pro used to be a light, quick, simple to use alternative to MSpaint. PSP v4 was very intuitive and wasn't a behemoth to load and use. I still use PSP4 on win7 however it does have some display issues. Since Corel took this over it has grown fat, clumsy, far from intuitive and way more than most users are interested in working with. Yes the have an extensive tutorial. They have to. The thing is so clumsy to use that you'll need to sit for hours just to learn...
Summary: I have been looking for a photo editing program that does more than red eye repair and making birthday cards. I have tried several very notable programs costing from $50 the very expensive costing several hundred dollars. The cheaper ones are just that, cheap The very expensive programs are probably outstanding in the hands of a professional photographer, but they are cumbersome and too time consuming to learn for your average hobbyist.
Pros: Easy to install. (Windows 8.1); Easy to navigate; Outstanding Tutorials (Both video and written); Very Powerful (I'm not a professional photographer)
good value for the money. Lots of tools and capabilities

Summary: Having just bought an olympus SLR, I needed a program that supported the Olympus RAW format and HDR. This program does both. I was already fimiliar with Paintshop use having used Paintshop x2. Their huge database of on line tutorials and help files answered any of my questions. I was also pleasently suprised with the speed of the HDR render compared to the sourceforge equivelent. This is not the current program (X5).
