Upgrades ... Or the tech-world's way to keep its hands in our wallets?
7 March 2014
Summary: CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6 - I had to buy this program as part of an upgrade for my graphics business. It was a critical component because my lower versions of Corel will not operate in my new Windows 7 computer. It's all part of the tech world's 'fix & break & fix & break' way of doing business. The entire upgrade will cost over $25 hundred, all so I can maintain full access to the web. Otherwise, my current system and programs were working just fine.
Summary: It's a real shame Corel decided to cripple some of this program. Being a student doesn't necessarily mean you're stupid or don't know anything. I've worked with full-powered Corel programs in the past, so I know what should be here. This version is not exactly "bare bones" but it assumes you will be happy with lousy resolution and non-functioning important elements.
Summary: I've used Coreldraw for years. I decided to upgrade to X6. It does a lot of great things. However, so many simple and necessary features are restricted in the Education edition that I have to find time-consuming work-arounds to do what I need to do. Once you know when the limitations will pop up, you can prepare ahead of time but I wouldn't have bought it had I known the extent of the blocked features. If you have the bucks get the full version.
