Good Photo Editor
J M., Newegg
24 August 2011
Pros: This is a very good photo editor for the price. I use it in conjunction with Lightroom 3 mainly when I have to make complex selections. I have been using it with absolutely no problems on a Windows 7 64 bit system.
Summary: I run Win 7 X64. Maybe thats the problem. Adobe suport is non existent.
Pros: Pretty good editor - at least for the basic stuff I do. Really liked the magic etaser and cloner.
Cons: Won't print. It list my printer then tell me I have to install a printer to print. What good is a program that refuses to print. I have reinstalled many times. If you have Win7 X64 DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK!
Summary: On a Macintosh, if you use multiple monitors and/or Spaces... expect to be frustrated to the point of baldness. The screen monopolizing interface looks slick, but is annoying to work with. Sometimes I *need* to be able to see background information.
Pros: Very powerful tools at a low price - 90% of full photoshop for 10% of the cost.
Cons: Non-standard, inconsistent, frustrating user interface.
Pros: Great software! I am very glad I purchased this, it has gone through many upgrades and the features are very easy to use.
Cons: Three day shipping through UPS resulted in a destroyed box... considering that I store disks and associated literature in the box to make storage easier and make things easier to find this is extremely disappointing to me.
Conclusion: I have used this product for Windows for a couple of years. I have made the jump to Mac and used the affordable options provided by Apple but they dont compare to Adobe's offering. This product is easy to use and is packed full of advanced features. Very affordable too!
Summary: Memory management is atrocious. If you want to use large images in a slide show, you must shut down everything else (including the PE9 editor) and manually assign it more RAM. Then maybe, just maybe, you will get an error-free run. The problems I have seen should have been found in alpha testing.
Pros: When it is working, it does let you edit photos, make slide shows, and manage your catalogs.
Cons: Everything else. I put it on Win7 x64. Worked two or three times, then froze. After that the editor would not launch even after reinstall. Spent hours with tech support (outsourced, of course) and got it working again by clearing the registry and leftover files in the app folders. And then it cra...
Summary: Newegg is a great online retailer. My bad for this purchase.
Pros: Still looking.
Cons: Seems every process that I attempt to use requires an update/download/expensive piece of additional Adobe software or an online connection and account, even the help function. The useful album feature formerly included in the freebie Photoshop Album is not included. It lacks the detailed photo ed...
Summary: My grief is very specific to Animated GIFs and running Photoshop Elements on a Mac. If you do not care about Animated GIFs and/or run on a PC, you may have a different experience. For me, I am very disappointed with Adobe for selling a product with a known defect.
Pros: Long list of features, some of these actually work.
Cons: I purchased this product primarily to produce Animated GIFs on my iMac. I read the product description completely, visited the Adobe site and examined the features in detail, then I purchased the product. Upon installation, I discovered a flaw in the Mac version of the animated GIF software. Note...
Summary: Some times I think Adobe intentionally leave some annoying bugs in software just so customers will return next year for the new version. The company also seem to incrementally introduce some new features in every release, but leave them unpolished just to lure return customers to buy the next...
Pros: Good basic functionality for photoshop and premiere, probably best photo/video editing software for the price point on windows platform. However, keep in mind you are buying software with designed expiration dates due to bugs, etc not get fixed before next version is released. See my thoughts bel...
Cons: Abode will release a new version instead of fixing all the annoying bugs in the previous year's version, the company is not interested in producing quality software just a new release every year. This can be seen in the professional series, but at least Adobe maintain thoses for a few years, with...
Conclusion: If you enjoy editing pictures then Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 is a great tool. If you enjoy video editing then Adobe Premiere Elements 9 is very good. Being able to purchase them both at a discount is fantastic!
