Adobe Premiere Elements 10 Review
17 October 2011
Excerpt: After years of domination in the pro video field, Apple, many believe, made a strategic error with the release of Final Cut Pro X ($299.99 in the Mac App Store), a misstep rival Adobe has benefitted from in its efforts to reclaim lost market shares for Premiere Pro ($799, adobe.com). The front line in this ongoing battle now shifts to the consumer market with the release of Premiere Elements 10, Adobe’s latest video editing suite for regular folks.
Excerpt: Rich options for organising and animating photos; sophisticated, pro-style colour correction; easy online sharing; beginner UI can be switched to conventional views; a strong choice for native AVCHD video editing
Pros: Rich options for organising and animating photos; sophisticated, pro-style colour correction; easy online sharing; beginner UI can be switched to conventional views; a strong choice for native AVCHD video editing
Cons: Some edits require rendering; still some quirky interface choices; default presets lack straightforward options
Excerpt: Premiere Elements may be a relative newcomer on the Mac – we reviewed the inaugural version 9 barely a year ago – but it's a mature video-editing program that has been available for Windows PCs for many years. Its key editing features and tools are therefore already in place and well tested, and this latest update doesn't really try to make any radical changes. Instead, Premiere Elements 10 concentrates on a relatively modest number of important new features.
Pros: Powerful editing and special effects tools; new colour correction tools; competitive price
