This is a great product best value for the dollars spent

  • Summary: I bought this version of Light Room because it works with my older computer operating system. Light Room 4 I found the learning curve a bit steep, mostly in understanding the "catalogues". Once past this catalogue issue the program became intuitive. I like Light Room 4 for working in conjunction and enhancing the PhotoShop programming I'm using. It also works well linking studio cameras directly to the computer, for this function alone it's worth the price.

  • Summary: Hard to figure out how to use it. I'm sure it is me ..not the software! I bought The update before I had anything to update. Then I had to by an earlier version TO update. So I have a lot of money into this project. Wish I could use it as the e-book I also bought is incredibly hard to use as it has no page numbers and I have to thumb thru the whole book to find anything. Wish I had just bought the hardcopy.

Great tool for photo enhancement! Easy to use with a wide range of options

  • Summary: I had downloaded and tested out Lighroom 3 for a month and really liked it so I decided to purchase Lightroom and thought 4 would be nearly the same. It is with what has turned out to be an improvement. Before in the "Develope" mode you could enhance shadows, lights, highlights, whites and blacks but only to increase the effect. In LR4 you can still enhance but now you can increase or decrease the effect. Still not truly understanding its cataloging system.

  • Summary: I started using Lightroom with LR3. My teacher used it and I wanted a single tool to handle both the RAW from both my Nikon DSLR's and my Canon compact. My first impressions were negative: - LR3 was outrageously expensive for what it was (LR4 is more reasonable but it's still a lot) - I thought it was very weak as an image library manipulation tool.
  • Pros: Compatibility with all major RAW formats. Common look to the end result, Stability, Industry standard, lots of documentation to help you, people who know it, Well thought out user interface, easy to understand
  • Cons: Still rather expensive, Library manipulation tool is weak, Doesn't follow Windows best practices (thousands of tiny files impact performance), Image miniature display is slow

  • Summary: I only used Capture nx2 in the past, I did try LR3 but didn't like it, when the LR4 beta came out I tried and fell in love with the develop module! For example I always struggled with the skin tones and in LR4 it was a breeze, it can recover shadows like anything else keeps amazing detail and comes out looking natural, really impressive! Highlights also does it very well, here the limitation is probably more the camera sensor than LR4.
  • Pros: Image quality, Color rendition, Amazing shadow recovery from RAW files, Ease to quickly browse to a large number of images, Non destructive editing, Accesible price
  • Cons: Exporting a large number of files is slow

  • Summary: I've been using Lightroom since version 3, and was eager to try out 4 as soon as it came out. In terms of functionality and results, I have not been disappointed. In addition to still looking great in terms of IQ, the adjustments have been organized in a more logical manner. Highlight and shadow recovery have been simplified (although it is still a bit confusing to distinguish between highlights, shadows, whites, and blacks..
  • Pros: Workflow, image quality, adjustments, brush tool (now with more adjustments available).
  • Cons: Speed (lack of), requires NASA supercomputer levels of memory.

  • Summary: A few features more and it would have been a 5star. Needs to have an easier way to import, export. Needs a better way to clone (the circle drives me nuts when I need a straight line)

Useful software

  • Summary: I basically bought Lightroom 4 after hearing so many good things about it from friends who are also into Photography. The program is limited compared to editing software like the GIMP but is fun to use and explore. I find that I am using it to tweak most of my photos since I bought it.

Almost better than Photoshop

  • Summary: Lightroom is getting more mature and quicker to use than Photoshop. There is still much that only Photoshop has the capability of doing but for speed and accuracy in basic digital photo processing Lightroom is now the winner.

Better features but slower than Lightroom 3.x

  • Summary: I've only had this a week or so therefore this is just a quick review because I haven't explored all the features. The shadow and highlight features are what attracted me to upgrade and I wasn't disappointed - it works better for me. The Highlight feature can still produce halos around darker areas if pushed too hard but it goes further than the 3.x Recovery feature before doing so. The Shadow feature seems to work better than the Fill Light feature of 3.x.
