Best so far, but...

Attila N., Newegg
29 April 2013
  • Summary: Adobe needs to put their pricing policy in order!
  • Pros: I use it to import (rename+backup @ the same time) then develop and export as full jpg. LR4 is the best RAW developing/file handling software I ever used. Its file management is priceless. Easy to use and quick. You can easily rate, keyword, organize your photos. If you don't want to invest into ...
  • Cons: It's better but not a life altering jump from LR3, so I was hesitant till i got a deal.. If that's where you are I'd wait for LR5 which should be out soon. Blurb was a mistake do deal with. I made several books with them and their QC is practically nonexistent. Some books -in the very same order ...

Much better than Aperture

Troy R., Newegg
22 February 2013
  • Pros: I've tried Aperture and Lightroom and Lightroom is the winner to me. Lightroom imports RAW files much faster and the editing capabilities are better.
  • Cons: The Mac download provided by Newegg does not work. When trying to install Mac OS 10.8.2 gives an error stating "The app's authorization has been revoked. Although this app was signed by an identified developer, the certificate for the app has been revoked. There may be a problem with it. The app ...

Very good photo management and editing

Cameron W., Newegg
1 December 2012
  • Summary: The wife, who performs photography professionally, has been using this for about 8 months now. At first, she was intimidated and overwhelmed, but she was determined to learn and use the "standard" among other photo professionals.
  • Pros: Works very well. Handles RAW files, which many photo apps cannot do. Works reasonably fast when rendering RAWs to JPG or other formats. user can create their own pre-sets or import pre-made ones. Non-destructive editing, no changes are made to the original files, ever. The de facto "standard" amo...
  • Cons: Changes to the original files are not visible in any other application, as the actual files themselves are not altered. Files must be exported (which then applies the changes) before adjustments can be viewed in other apps. Pricey, many other capable photo tools are priced much less. Many tools a...

If you use raw files, you want Lightroom

David G., Newegg
1 July 2012
  • Pros: Does a great job of letting you extract details that your camera won't find for you. Reasonably easy to use. If you use raw files--and you definitely should!--you want Lightroom. I hand-adjusted raw files and compared them withe the .jpg files produced by the camera's processor. With flower pictu...
  • Cons: Not particularly useful for those who work only with .jpg files (raw files have about 250,000 times more information in them). Definitely takes a little practice and a little time to adjust pictures. Cropping seems to be limited to the original pictures aspect ratio (or maybe I just haven't found...

Franglais, Photography Review
20 May 2012
  • Summary: I started using Lightroom with LR3. My teacher used it and I wanted a single tool to handle both the RAW from both my Nikon DSLR's and my Canon compact. My first impressions were negative: - LR3 was outrageously expensive for what it was (LR4 is more reasonable but it's still a lot) - I thought it...
  • Pros: Compatibility with all major RAW formats. Common look to the end result, Stability, Industry standard, lots of documentation to help you, people who know it, Well thought out user interface, easy to understand
  • Cons: Still rather expensive, Library manipulation tool is weak, Doesn't follow Windows best practices (thousands of tiny files impact performance), Image miniature display is slow

  • Summary: I only used Capture nx2 in the past, I did try LR3 but didn't like it, when the LR4 beta came out I tried and fell in love with the develop module! For example I always struggled with the skin tones and in LR4 it was a breeze, it can recover shadows like anything else keeps amazing detail and comes...
  • Pros: Image quality, Color rendition, Amazing shadow recovery from RAW files, Ease to quickly browse to a large number of images, Non destructive editing, Accesible price
  • Cons: Exporting a large number of files is slow

Iceman2058, Photography Review
3 May 2012
  • Summary: I've been using Lightroom since version 3, and was eager to try out 4 as soon as it came out. In terms of functionality and results, I have not been disappointed. In addition to still looking great in terms of IQ, the adjustments have been organized in a more logical manner.
  • Pros: Workflow, image quality, adjustments, brush tool (now with more adjustments available).
  • Cons: Speed (lack of), requires NASA supercomputer levels of memory.

Useful software

S O, Amazon
16 March 2012
  • Summary: I basically bought Lightroom 4 after hearing so many good things about it from friends who are also into Photography. The program is limited compared to editing software like the GIMP but is fun to use and explore. I find that I am using it to tweak most of my photos since I bought it.

  • Summary: A few features more and it would have been a 5star. Needs to have an easier way to import, export. Needs a better way to clone (the circle drives me nuts when I need a straight line)
