The best photo editing programme out there, if a bit complex for beginners.

Excerpt: 'Photoshopping' has become part of the language over the last few years, the way its talked about when it comes to airbrushing celebrities or faking dramatic images you'd think it was as easy as a few quick clicks to 'photoshop' something and get a great result. Sadly this is not the case, Photoshop is quite a complicated design programme and takes a lot of practice to get to grips with, but its definitely worth it and in my opinion is the best photo editing software out...
Excerpt: Choosing the right design package is essential if you are serious about creating professional quality artwork, or simply want to perform advanced adjustments to your digital photos. Cheaper design software often has its limitations, and although you will save money by using it, you will ultimately be frustrated in the long-run. Therefore, if you want real quality, look no further than 'Photoshop CS3', which is part of Adobe's flagship trio of image editing software.
Excerpt: Photoshop CS3 is Adobe's flagship image editing software. It's one of those pieces of 'equipment' which is a must have for any graphic designer, photographer or illustrator. Basically Photoshop has such depth, that it can grow with you as a creative professional. On a weekly basis I find new features hidden away in the menu system, most of which I don't yet understand (and i've been using Photoshop for around 8 years).
all around is a great software package for any photographer

Excerpt: Adobe Photoshop has always been the best photo editing software on the market. As Ipod are to mp3 player's Photoshop is to photo editing software. Adobe Photoshop cs3 has all the regular features you'd expect with any photo editing software. Photoshop has the ability of layers meaning you can layer photos over each other you can also change the opacity of layers, meaning you can see through them more this is brilliant for creating artistic pieces.
Should at least consider older versions before splurging on this one.

Excerpt: I'm not a professional graphic designer or involved in any fancy business where a product such as CS3 is used reguarly and, well, professionally. I'm a meagre digital artist, and only that occasionally; but, regardless of such, I own and use CS3 fairly often in my spare time. It's a long time since I upgraded to CS3 now, but I recall with ease the immediate confusion I was met with upon doing so.
Summary: There's no doubt as to the power and versatility of Photoshop CS3 - it is, after all, the industry standard. The big question is, is it worth the asking price to a photographer? At £562 it's expensive - that money would buy a decent entry-level DSLR and lens kit - add to that the fact that the average amateur photographer would probably, at most, use only 30% of the power and features of CS3 (remember it's target market is graphic designers and imaging professionals);...
Summary: A wonderful program with a simply huge learning curve. Thank goodness the magazines continue to show me how to use it! The smart objects addition has changed the way I work. I also like Camera Raw to convert my RAW files. I've tried a few others, but always come back to Adobe. It's a lot of money, but worth it if you sit at the computer whenever you're not out taking photos.
Summary: Ok so it is expensive, but as they say you get what you pay for. Whilst i only use it to manipulate digital photographs i know it is capable of so much more. Is there anything it cant do with a picture. I use the MAC version and have found it stable, fast and reliable. It has never crashed when i have been using it. A powerful tool with infinite flexibility. Highly Recommended.
Summary: I have CS3, but I also have Elements 6 and Lightroom 2. I would say that for the majority of photographers Elements more than does everything they will need (especially when you can get free plug-ins to do layer masks etc). Of course there are other differences and if you are the type of person who enjoys the digital manipulation side of things and you are willing to explore the programme in depth, then CS3 may be worth the money.
