SouthPeak gambled on a barely clothed character, but that was everything: they did not try to add some depth to Ayumi, they had no intention to actually make her look good (really, she’s not at all as beautiful as I expected her to be) and didn’t pay too much attention to the story either. However, these aspects are saved by the solid gameplay and the easy control scheme which makes your button mashing experience quite pleasant: but it’s still nothing but pressing... Read more
by Nathan Meunier Since males make up such a large percent of the hardcore gamer population, seeing game publishers pander to shallow male interests in hopes of raking in a sizeable cash return isn't uncommon. Sex and violence sell, and melding the two into a titillating orgy of flashing naked skin, spinning blades, and sprays of blood may seem like a sure-fire way to produce a hit title. The formula has succeeded in the past, but that doesn't mean it will fly with... Read more
Despite a lead character that isn't the most likeable we've come across and some pretty repetitive gameplay, X-Blades still manages to be decent fun. This isn't enough to elevate it to must own status though, especially with plenty of better alternatives available on each platform. By no means a terrible effort, but X-Blades has too many problems to ignore. Read more
When I was first introduced to X-Blades, via a standard press release, I have to admit that I kind of glossed it over, as a generic hack and slash type game, with nothing to catch my eye, or differentiate it from everyone else in the genre. Of course, that was before I was introduced to the main character in X-Blades, a sassy young explorer who goes by the name Ayumi. It should also be noted that she goes spelunking while wearing a dental floss thong, and a couple... Read more
in short is a very simple game with very simple gameplay. Those that get their kicks from half-naked female lead characters have with Ayumi a new and tight toy and will no doubt enjoy the straightforward adventures and fights. Don't expect more but maybe you're not really longing for a game that tries to be more than it really is: a couple of hours of brainless innocent entertainment for boys and girls of all ages. The look of the game is gorgeous like any good PS3 game however that?s where it seems to end for me on this one. (Though I did like the fast load times for this game.) Where to start, alright the AI. The AI can be fooled by getting the flying creatures stuck to walls and these days you would think a bit of beta testing would fix something like that! Not to mention the fact ALL the enemies run right for you even when your wailing away on their buddies. No realism in that... Read more
I'll be honest, I bought the game primarily for the main reason that most other guys bought it. However, the game itself is pretty good. The use of magic and intuitive, and doesn't impede her progress as she's battling with her swords. The only negative I have with the game is that I have to turn the graphics way down to play the game without it slowing, and I've got a Core-2-Quad. Well, I guess it's time to ge tthat new graphics card. Read more
