  • Excerpt: Anyone who has at least moderately kept up with gaming over the past two decades has probably heard of Worms, if not spent hours of their lives playing it. It has had a bit of a cult following since it appeared on the scene way back in 1995. The gameplay has fundamentally remained unchanged throughout its many iterations (Worms 3D excluded); That, as any dedicated Worms fan will tell you, is not a complaint.

  • Conclusion: The Worms games have always been a cheap way to enjoy mindless fun. The titles made by Team 17 make for great party games, and are fun ten years after their initial release. As time has gone on, Team 17 has tried a wide variety of new things. Everything from golf to 3D combat has been thrown at these little buggers, yet nothing has stuck quite as well as the original design. We now see the release of Worms Revolution, a new spin on a classic title.

  • Excerpt: There is a campaign with 32 levels, and it gets fairly challenging. Worms Revolution ’s legs, though, are most definitely in its multiplayer. Fun and destructible battlefields, over-the-top weapons and drowning your opponent’s pesky worms is great fun, and the level to which players can customize versus matches is amazing.
  • Pros: Lengthy single-player campaign, very customizable multiplayer, drowning enemy worms is great fun
  • Cons: All of the worms except the Scout move slower than I’d like, physics objects take longer than they should to blow up and affect the battlefield

Worms Revolution

Hooked Gamers
16 October 2012
  • Conclusion: Worms Revolution is not a new game, but a tweak on the older titles in the series. Having said that, it is a heap of fun to play. The bright 2D visuals have been improved a touch so that they seem to have added depth. The voice over work from Matt Berry is superb, with his lively British accent complementing the hilarious script of Dean Wilkinson. The gameplay is just as enjoyable, with smooth controls and heaps of new and old weapons and utilities to try.
  • Pros: Hilarious, well voiced script and smooth gameplay make this fun to play.
  • Cons: If you’ve played a Worms game, the differences are somewhat minor.

Worms Revolution

Gamezebo
15 October 2012
  • Summary: The market for tiny, worm-sized army gear is up 35% this year.
  • Pros: Tons of content, both for single-player fans and multiplayer battles. Superb physics engine with predictable trajectories for weapons and water. New additions, like physics objects and classes, encourage more strategic approaches to levels. Lots of costumes and customizables to make the game your own.
  • Cons: Despite the new additions, still feels very similar to previous 2D Worms games. Response time for controls sometimes delayed after turns. Tutorial levels mostly focus on features new to Revolution, so the learning curve for Worms newcomers will be steep.

Worms Revolution Review (PC)

Softpedia
8 October 2012
  • Conclusion: Worms Revolution manages to strike a great balance between respecting the core gameplay of the series while adding some much needed improvements, from the physics effects to the rather impressive water. There are still downsides like the impossibly precise AI or the rather hit and miss interaction with objects, but it’s still a great experience that will no doubt make or break lots of friendships.

Worms Revolution hands-on

GameZone
2 October 2012
  • Excerpt: Since 1995, developer Team17 has been delivering consistently satisfying strategy experiences across the PC, home consoles, and even handhelds with its Worm series. Simply put, these games offer up a nice combination of lighthearted themes and engaging artillery-based gameplay. Worms hasn’t exactly evolved all that dramatically over the years (with the exception of the 3D games), but it’s added plenty of refinements and nuances to keep players coming back for more.

Worms Revolution

3 September 2013
