Good if you have time on your hands

Summary: Found the game to be a little tedious and very large in scope. As a working stiff did not have time to really learn it like I should. I have known many who have this game as well as the HOI series and almost all enjoy the HOI series more. If I were retired I would probably have liked it better. It is very awkward to learn the ropes and will take a bit of time to become competitive.
Summary: It plays well & is easy to learn how to play. I thought I'd be able to choose from more than 7 countries though. However, the game crashes from time to time and takes a long time to load saved campaigns. Both of those traits can get very annoying...
Summary: got it pretty cheap, so i'm not too upset. what it boils down to is it's supposed to be a mix of RTS and RISK, which is an awesome concept (hence why i bought it). the RISK part, turn based war game, was pretty fun and thats mostly all i play this game as now. the 3d globe map is pretty darn cool, i really like the diplomacy and internal affairs aspect, really neat! the RTS portion was...eh ok i guess.
Summary: "War Leaders: Clash of Nations" is the first computer strategy game I have played extensively. It has both a strategic mode and a tactical, battlefield mode. These can be used independently, or jointly, so that you *can* use the tactical mode to fight out the battles that arise from the strategy mode, but you are not required to; similary, you can design tactical battles and fight them without using the strategy mode.
Summary: War Leaders is a poor man's Hearts of Iron III, which may be a good thing for beginner and intermediate wargamers. If you can get it for $20 or less, I found it certainly worth the price. And I do not particularly like RTS games. You can also just play the game from the strategic map and auto-resolve the tactical battles. Lots of units that are historically accurate. Overall, a solid introductory game, like Risk on steriods.
Summary: First, let me say that this is quite a value - very inexpensive for a new-issue game. And you get two games in one. Playing a skirmish game will put you into a tactical game. You pick a map and you have so much money to spend on your army--buy infantry, tanks, howitzers, bombers, whatever--there is quite sufficient variety in what you can buy. Your opponent does the same and you are off to battle.
Conclusion: Having enjoyed plenty of WW2 and RTS games over the years I am still waiting for the definative one - when I first looked at war leaders I did think that this could be the one, and it does give opportunity to re write the war. Downside is that although taking the battle map from the likes of Total War it does not live upto their standards - in the battles the movements are clunky and often units end up all over the place.
