Summary: A game that had potential but didn't make a difference. Part of the reason for that -besides the abundance of bugs originally- is that its old school, same game play with Everquest 1 with a few innovations. EQ1 and even EQ2 were in the same league and better. Without its bugs it would be a good game for 2007, but now it looks aged especially in characters and animations. Still, has some great classes to pick from and it is f2p as well. Give it a try.
Excerpt: Vanguard: Saga of Heroes is supposed to be the next big thing in Massively-Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs). Designed to be harder than World of Warcraft and deeper than any game in the genre, Vanguard shows promise to become a great game – but a rush to release has resulted in an unfinished product that won’t be in its true form for some time.
Conclusion: I played this game when it came out and it was awful performance wise, and that caused me to stop playing. I resubscribed a few weeks ago, and the game has under gone massive improvements. All the bugs that drove me away from the game have disappeared, and performance is very noteably better!
Conclusion: A pity but the game is far from polished nowadays. It has a great variety of races and the map are the biggest i have seen in any MMO. But the many bugs it has and the low population makes boring to play.
Conclusion: I owned Vanguard from the opening day, I had my preorder from Play.com weeks before the game was released and I was glad; for me, it was the first time that I had experienced the opening day of an MMO.
Conclusion: I bought this game in early March ... it's now August, and I can safely say... this is the best game I've EVER played!!! I am a massive game lover. I've been playing PC games since I could walk. The only downside to the game is the population numbers at the moment due to unpatiant players and a bag release.
Conclusion: It's fair to say that this game has more than a few glitches. When it was first released there were loads of them but they are steadily being worked out. This was partly due to the company who made it (Sigil) actually ran out of money while developing it. But ignoring the bugs Vaguard is a great game that changes a lot of the boring monotonous things about MMORPGs.
Conclusion: As the previous review write said, great ideas too many flaws. ive been playing vanguard since its release, got to about level 35, i've had to grit my teeth just to enjoy the game and play it, but the bugs/flaws in the game just got too much, quests were bugged, you never got the items/drops for quests that was needed, you fell through the world when you loged in and died, which your never got the XP back for, so if you like playing a game where anything you do, doesnt...
