Unreal Tournament

The Armchair Empire
8 March 2002
  • Conclusion: to hit the frag limit, Assault, where teams must meet mission objective in order to win, and so on. The sheer diversity of play modes keeps the game fresh for a very long time. While playing these different modes there are plenty of weapons at players’ disposal, all with primary and secondary fire (except for the pneumatic hammer, but it still serves two functions: attack and high jumping).

  • Summary: For a long time I've been waiting for a game that will just completely amaze and entertain myself, and with Unreal Tournament, I've found that game. Whereas most other games are great in an area or two, such as graphics, UT is completely polished in all areas. The developers took their time and put a lot of love and care into this game, which is so well reflected in the end product.

Unreal Tournament Game of the Year

The Armchair Empire
20 April 2001
  • Conclusion: The most amusing mutator is probably the "Fatboy" option. The more kills you rack up, the fatter you get (and the more appealing you become as a target). But if you’re getting your butt kicked you dwindle down to stickman dimensions. It’s an excellent way to gauge how well you’re doing without checking the stats. Another game type addition for the hardcore gamer: Rocket Arena. RA pits players one-on-one in a fight to the finish.

Unreal Tournament – Review

GameCritics.com
7 July 2000
  • Excerpt: Walk by a couple of young kids debating their favorite sci-fi shows and youll likely find yourself dumbfounded. One kid, a zealot Trekker ( Star Trek fanatic), will praise how the whole universe created in that series takes on a life of its own. Hell talk about the wondrous technology and great characters, but, much to your amazement, the next kid, a devout Babylon 5 fan (a relatively new franchise that has been consistently stealing Star Treks thunder and fans), will...

31 December 1999
  • Excerpt: Considering the unprecedented popularity of the multiplayer mode in the 1998 sci-fi shooting game Unreal , which is otherwise a single-player game, Unreal Tournament came to life out of sheer demand. As such, it came packed with a massive fan-based that was instantly satiated with what would become the new benchmark in online, multiplayer frag festivals. Unreal Tournament is, as they say, the bomb.

Unreal Tournament

Game Over Online
3 December 1999
  • Excerpt: Just when you thought the first-person-shooter death-matching genre was all washed up -- Unreal Tournament hits the shelves, and it has definitely left a mark bigger than your mother's rear. Backed by the best 3D engine on the market (at the moment), Unreal Tournament is a death-matching junkie's dream come true. Every aspect of this title, hell -- even the installer, seems to be a well-defined masterpiece. This game brings new meaning to the term "Quake-Killer.
