Summary: The game's engine is still one of the prettiest on the et, and Unreal gets credit for being the first true Quake II-killer in single-play, even if games using an enhanced Quake II engine are now giving it a serious run for its money). A return trip to the hellish planet shows us that Unreal still has a few tricks up its claw-bearing sleeves. With that said, Return to Na Pali is mediocre as mission packs go.

Excerpt: The first (and I hope the last) official addon to the well known 3D action Unreal. Legend (creator of Shanara or Death Gate) tried to create their first non adventure title (before Wheel of Time or Unreal 2), but with no great succes. The level design is really simple, only the graphics part of the game is well known "Legend" - super atmospheric textures and pictures. The gameplay is nearly the same that in Unreal with a very similar story.
Excerpt: It was to be the Doom-killer; the game that would finally unseat the then-undisputed masters of FPS gaming: the men and women of id software. But to those who played it, Unreal was surprisingly unoriginal, lacking in both innovation and imagination. Its gameplay was uninspired, its story was a confused mess, and its missions were hopelessly simple.
Excerpt: When Unreal II: The Awakening was first released in early 2003, it failed to meet the lofty expectations of critics and fans. Part of the disappointment stemmed from a short, lackluster single-player campaign, a problem that was compounded by the absence of any multiplayer modes. In response to the criticism, Atari has rereleased Unreal II in a new "special edition" package that includes both the single-player campaign and a team-based multiplayer mode called "XMP"...
Excerpt: Unreal is a first person shooter game. The basic story is you are aboard a crashed prison transport ship. You don't know what planet you are on but as it turns out, once you find your way outside of the crashed transport, you find yourself on a beautiful planet but your aren't alone. Another alien species is there also and have enslaved the locals. Your goal is to find out what caused the crash and find your way off of the planet.
Excerpt: Once upon a time, a little title called Unreal came out, in a time when FPS were saturated with generic Doom rip offs. A little company called Epic games, headed by an energetic guy nick-named Cliffy B decided it was time for a change: a first-person shooter, with great graphics, level design to die for and an incredible experience. Their task was a success, and to this day Unreal is considered one of the best FPS on the PC, period.
Summary: Finally, This game is one of the best 3D shooters I've played to this date. Although Shogo: MAD is catching my eye that's another story. Unreal is original which is its absolutely best feature. The story is an original alien motif. The environments are original, and the sounds are original. Phew, I think I can stop holding my breath so I have enough strength to call 911.
Excerpt: Looking back on the years I have spent playing games, I can only recall a small number that actually changed the way I thought about gaming. These few games brought to life emotions inside of me that made the game come alive in a new way that other games just can't do. Doom, Quake, Civilization, Secret of Monkey Island, Gabriel Knight, Gabriel Knight 2, Tie Fighter, and now Unreal. Unreal is the much hyped up, yet one of the most delayed games ever.
