More focused and polished than the original, it's a game to get for any fan of the FPS genre looking for something a bit different. Read more
While I never played very far into the original Thief: The Dark Project, (so many games, so little time...plus, I only had a P166/Voodoo 1 at the time) I was nonetheless impressed by what I had seen. Thief showed that a 3D engine could be used for more than just Quake-likes. I don't think I saw such an innovative and immersive environment again until...well, System Shock 2. Rather than hacking your way through the level with the thoughtfully provided sword, you instead... Read more
Thief II doesn’t offer much that’s radically different from its predecessor, aside from slightly beefed-up visuals, superior sound and a better balance of missions. But since the original game was an instant classic to begin with, giving us more of the same is certainly no crime. Read more
Continuing along the same lines of the first game in which players took control of a thief names Garrett, Metal Age has a deep and rich storyline that will have gamers intrigued for many hours. The new engine promises the usual onslaught of graphical buzzword improvements that many gamers expect to see in any first person game these days. These include 16-bit color, dynamic colored lighting, translucency, particle effects system, as well as a doubling up on polygon... Read more
The mission design is more consistent than the original's, and some of the missions are among the best in any action game to date. Read more
I've been writing and playing computer games since my Atari 2600 back in 1978. I've played nearly every 3D or FPS game created and this game rates as my favorite of all time. The first Thief came with my video card and was fun, but I gave up early on. I probably would not have looked for, or purchased Thief II based on my experience with the first game. However, I received a copy from a friend, fell in love with the game and purchased it online (even though I already had... Read more
Fun: The game, unlike the first Thief, gradually immerses the player into a more technological-type of stealth. Instead of just humans or monsters that the first game immediately throws into the players' faces after just a couple of maps, this game gradually introduces the concept of mechanical guardians. It allows players to compensate rather than be overwhelmed. Also, rather than fighting all the factions like some lone renegade, Thief 2 makes the player sympathetic to... Read more
I couldn't get into this game at all. I never even got past the first level - there were so many different keys controlling different things I couldn't get my head round it all! I think once you get the hang of the controls it would be a good game, but I never got that far. I also found that it was quite hard to understand what your aim was, and were you were supposed to go and what you were supposed to do. Read more
