The Witcher Enhanced Edition
1 August 2012
Excerpt: Geralt of Rivia returns again... in the Witcher Enhanced Edition which addresses a few issues of the original game such as technical faults and questionable dialogue. Thanks for the game being such a hit, CDPROJEKT RED have been able to re-release the title to address the loading issues, redo some of the voice acting and dialogue plus add about 5 hours to the gameplay, thanks to two new missions.
Excerpt: Reviewing The Witcher Enhanced Edition is difficult, because more than any expansion pack, Game of the Year Edition or other remake, this game is The Witcher, released in 2007. This is in no way a condemnation of Enhanced Edition. It's just as fun, original, and exciting as the original. Still, for the uninitiated and the faithful, this new edition needs to be introduced and examined.
Conclusion: Wow, sorry for the length of this article. The game is really that good and reminds me so much of the great games Black Isle used to produce. CD Projekt surely has made a great title and I hope to see more titles like this from them sometime in the future as in my eyes they have taken up the torch that was dropped by Black Isle. It's titles like these that give me hope that one day PC RPG's will be restored to how they were in the golden age of the 90's.
Excerpt: The Witcher was released originally in 2007 to generally positive reviews, but it also came with a number of major issues. Developer CD Projekt RED decided to listen to all of the problems - mainly long loading times and inventory management nightmares - and release a large upgrade a year later, along with a redone set of voice-acting and text dialogue, and bonus adventures.
Excerpt: Game companies usually don’t get do-overs. If there’s a bug or design flaw in a game, it stays there until the end of time. PC games often have the benefit of patches and mod communities, but these are after the fact and don’t always address the most glaring problems. Enter CD Projekt Red, developers of last year’s action RPG The Witcher ; a promising but uneven title that, like many PC RPGs, felt like it needed a few more months in the oven.
Excerpt: His name, was Geralt of Rivia… As you already know, the game focuses on the adventures of Geralt The White Wolf, a professional monster slayer. Witchers are expert swordfighters and potent offensive magic users as well as genetically enhanced, granting them the power to use special alchemical potions known as mutagens that would otherwise be lethal to normal humans.
Pros: Technical Improvements that enhance gameplay, same compelling story, ample amount of extras, game editor. Don't miss it.
Cons: No witcher medallion, new adventures are short.
Summary: Every once in a while, a game comes along that reminds us that PC gaming is a long way from extinction. The Witcher: Enhanced Edition is a shining example of how a game with a simple point-and-click control scheme can still suck gamers into a totally unique experience that can last for dozens of hours.
