  • Summary: Consider the rarity of high-quality dialogue, meaningful decisions, and rewarding combat in the action-RPG genre, and then uncross those legs to explore The Witcher 2‘s fresh universe of traditional components.
  • Pros: Deep Lore, Believable Fantasy, Swift Combat
  • Cons: Clunky PC Controls, Gambling Minigames

A Game of Thongs

RPGamer
17 September 2011
  • Excerpt: Have you ever gotten so bored one day that you decided to put on six pairs of underwear, just for the hell of it? Of course you have! So too did the ever-vigilant hero of The Baconing , a man who needs no introduction as evidenced by the removal of his name from the game's title. In his latest adventure, DeathSpank, hero to the downtrodden, gets extremely bored one day and decides to put on all six of the Thongs of Virtue at once, inadvertently releasing the fiendish...

The Baconing

Strategy Informer

  • Conclusion: Hothead may be pushing their luck, but there’s life in the Hero to the Downtrodden yet. If there’s another episode though there has to be a major shake-up as the series is in danger of getting boring, and no amount of left-clicking will make that particular gruesome reality monster go away.

Mature fantasy RPG is full of sex, violence, profanity.

Common Sense Media
22 August 2011
  • Summary: Parents need to know that The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is a dark fantasy role-playing game clearly intended for adult consumption. It contains frequent scenes of bloody carnage, frank sexuality, extreme profanity, substance abuse, and virtual gambling. While the politically-charged story tends to push players in the directions of virtuous behavior that includes helping others, opportunity exists for players to ally themselves with clearly villainous characters and...

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Review

maximum pc
7 June 2011
  • Summary: For significant chunks of time, we simply weren’t having fun. Without a doubt, however, the experience will stick with us for years. As a whole, we didn’t just like it; we loved it—jagged, disfiguring scars and all. Confused? Just play it and see what we mean. You won’t regret it.
  • Pros: Incredibly beautiful, detailed world; choices that really matter; mostly excellent writing and characters.
  • Cons: Half-baked, sometimes frustrating combat; terrible tutorial; wonky interface and quest design.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

Game Over Online
25 May 2011
  • Excerpt: I'm probably one of the few PC gamers that didn't instantly fall in love with The Witcher when it came out. From the story to the characters to the combat, it was all just "okay". Even the much-touted "Enhanced Edition" barely made much of a difference, as far as I could tell. It always made me wonder if, because PC gamers rarely get exclusivity anymore, maybe they were all just deluding themselves into their Witcher lust, the same way Wii owners refuse to accept that...

ActionTrip

  • Conclusion: Oh yeah, and I almost forgot - there are naked boobies and hot sex scenes in this game. So, that's something I guess.
  • Pros: Absolutely gorgeous graphics, great soundtrack and voice acting, a lot of eye-openers in this one and more stuff explained about Geralt's background, an amazing variety of characters, more items and weapons to toy around with, story keeps you going, cool and intriguing moral choices;
  • Cons: Combat system's flawed, not the in-depth RPG experience we were hoping for, what was unique and appealing about The Witcher is gone, the franchise is hopping on the bandwagon of dumbed down single-player experiences that are being stripped of their RPG complexity (not the first time we've seen this happen and by the look of things, it won't be the last).

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings review (PC)

HonestGamers
23 May 2011
  • Excerpt: If you can look past the balancing, pacing and technical issues, there is an extremely solid RPG here - nothing especially innovative, but definitely a game that sets out to be the most absorbing, rich and spectacular experience it possibly can be. It’s a disappointment because it largely succeeds in that goal while fluffing the basics. The best RPG of the current generation? With a bit more care, it could have been.
