A further review of The Thingee...

Jim Bettis, Amazon
8 November 2003
  • Summary: Ok, I'm back. I've played the game for over a week now and as I said before, it has some really fun and exciting spots. And yes, it might even scare you at times. And yes, the trust thing is kind of interesting, although I never really like squad-type games where you have to babysit somebody else. One thing that really bugged me with finding an "engineer" to fix some junction box and open a door for you, is that the SOB wouldn't stay put!

The "Frustration" of the Thing...

Jim Bettis, Amazon
4 November 2003
  • Summary: Gee, I haven't cussed this much since I played Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb or Angel Of Darkness... I bought the game cheap, so I shouldn't complain. The game IS interesting and exciting at times and the graphics are pretty cool, but there are some flawes in the controls. There are two patches out, supposedly, to correct some of the minor bugs. But, when I downloaded them, it screwed everything up.

great mood too many bugs

Daniel J. Hagerman "milkboydanny", Amazon
13 January 2003
  • Summary: this game has the best ambience of any game i have played. great sound, and music. really scary in some parts but sometimes the characters get stuck and you cannot figure out what they are saying so it makes it hard to keep up with plot. you cannot kill any of your team and accidents do happen especially in a firefight. sometimes i shoot a monster but your team gets caught in crossfire and your objective is to keep your team alive. if they die it is game over.

Good... but VERY buggy.

Quentin Westcott, Amazon
26 December 2002
  • Summary: Does set a nice mood and does have some scary parts, but the game is VERY buggy, even after the patches. Examples: Player can unavoidably take damage during cutscenes, even if trying to skip them (screen black and AI's are active during this time on boss battles). Ambience sound effects can play over the dialogue so it's hard to figure out the plot. Team members can get stuck in their "...out" animations after they calm down. Bad texture seams in characters faces.

a licence off target

Dan Rexx "danrexx", Amazon
3 September 2002
  • Summary: When I knew that a game from the Thing had to be released I was excited and eager to play it; also knew from some previews it had new features that made the game different from others. Now that I played I was disappointed: the graphics are top notch (wonderful storms) but all the rest is quite repetive and uninspired, the gameplay is the usual find the button and smash the monster/soldier.

Great game but the easy level sure isn't

"hockeyhooked", Amazon
31 August 2002
  • Summary: the graphics and story line are excellent also the action is fast past, but my complaints are as follows:(maybe some one from Sierra might read this?) 1 easy level is too hard(try getting into the armory!) 2 sequence is too long between save points-this is strange because some save points are very short? 3laguage unsuitable for younger people,it doesn' really add to the story line!

horrorgam..., Ciao

  • Excerpt: The Thing is pretty much a direct sequel to the events the film of same name. The game was developed by Computer Artworks and published by Konami in 2002. Story 6/10 The game starts with you as a member of squad investigating the ruins of the outpost from the film, presumably not too long after the events of the film. Basically you and some other army guys have been called to investigate what's going on up in penguin country.
  • Pros: scary, atmospheric, true to the film
  • Cons: controls were a bit blocky at times (damn you konami)
