The classics were better, but this is a very good game

Summary: I am a long-time fan of adventure games. I miss the genre and I tend to live on the memories of Gabriel Knight, King's Quest, Monkey Island, and Grim Fandango adventures from days gone by. This game doesn't really live up to the old adventure games or even its own prequels, but it is a very good game. The puzzles are only moderately challenging, but they seem logical (in a wacky sort of way that fits the game) rather than random or forced.
Summary: I have been playing adventure games for over 20 years and I've played all of the previous Monkey Island games. Once I figured out how to get past the various performance issues and adjusted to the somewhat bizarre cursor controls, I found this entire series of games to be engaging and humorous. Summary: Monkey Island aren't the best adventure games out there, but they are fun. If you have played them before this is more of the same. So if you liked it before, buy it. Elaine, Le Chuck and Vodo Lady are all there along with assorted new characters. I liked the ability to buy this game in pieces as downloads. Whenever you buy a game you run the risk of it not working on your computer.
Summary: Great game, but this review is really to give a tip for folks with slow games. I have a relatively new laptop (Feb 09) with a DuoCore2 6400@ 2.00 ghz and was having the slow problems. The ship intro was nearly (or nigh, for you pirates) making me literally sea-sick because of the delayed motion. I fixed the problem by going into game settings and lowering both the quality of picture and the resolution (don't know if both are necessary).
Summary: I too played the origial Monkey Island series and loved the PG13+ humor of the game. (ToMI) Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 1 brings the old characters back to life with the same "feel" as the original game. The cartoonish graphics are fitting for the genre and the acting is superb. There is some issues with the background "noise" during some dialog scenes, but overall the mixture is good.
