Summary: I downloaded this a few days ago from GH, and boy am I glad I did. We're in need of some good humor after lots of dark, brooding HO/adventure games. The 2D cartoonish atmosphere is well done (way colorful), the characters are "dog-gone" enjoyable, and the banter between them and the overall dialogue often gave me out-loud laughter. The "parrot" hint system takes some getting use to but can make you "logic" things out.
Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter One (PC): Totally bananas!
30 June 2011
Summary: For years after the release of Escape From Monkey Island, fans of the series were left desperate for more of Guybrush's adventures. Many thought the point-and-click genre would never be returned to and that Monkey Island was dead. But Telltale Games saved the day in 2009 when they released Tales of Monkey Island, a humourous adventure split into five parts.
Pros: Good gameplay; fabulous story; a memorable main character; great graphics and sound.
Tales of Monkey Island: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal
22 June 2011
Summary: With a nine year absence from the games industry, Monkey Island seemed dead. That was until E3 2009 when not only was a remake of the first game announced, but also Tales of Monkey Island, a new game in the series that would be released episodically. 'Launch of the Screaming Narwhal' is the first chapter of five, which collectively make up Tales of Monkey Island.
Pros: Humour and Music
Cons: Poor design of the side characters and far too easy
Conclusion: For those who played the original Monkey Island games you will feel right at home with this offering. The voice actors are the same from the third game onwards which gives a nice feel of continuity. Many of the puzzles have a trial and error feel to them but it is satisfying when you get it right. Try to resist the temptation to look up a play guide as the areas aren't massive so with a little patience you should be able to work out most of them yourself.
