Excerpt: Starship Troopers has been a movie with a stupid story, but which had the advantage to have been directed by the controversial a Paul Verhoeven. From minute 1 to the “fantastic” finale, the film seduces the two senses taking...
Excerpt: Starship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy, based on the 1960 Hugo-winning book of the same name by Robert Heinlein and the 1997 movie, is squad-based, real-time strategy game with the emphasis on building up your soldiers skills and abilities. At the beginning of the game you choose a Platoon Commander - your central character - who accompanies each mission and must live to fight again if you are to proceed.
Excerpt: This game is crap, complete, unadulterated Ceee-RAP (aww, don’t sugarcoat it, tell us how you really feel), and I’d like Stranglite Developers to develop a machine that will give me back the weekend that I wasted playing it, a weekend that could have otherwise been spent working my way up the black list in NFS:MW or digging into the new Prince of Persia game, or even spent playing Freecell. But no, I had to review Starship Troopers. Is it the worst game I ever played?
Pros: A fairly lengthy single-player campaign, Lots of bugs onscreen at once
Cons: Technical issues plague practically every part of the game, Missions are dull and repetitive to the point of frustration, Archaic graphics, Seriously awful voice acting, Completely botches any attempts to relate itself to the film's tone and style
Excerpt: Light-years from Earth, an enemy force is preparing to remove the human race from existence. They are amassing their troops and preparing for full-scale war. At the same time you and your platoon are joining thousands of other platoons onboard tremendous battleships, speeding towards the enemy's home planet. Your weapons are state of the art. Your training has made you strong. Your numbers are overwhelming.
Excerpt: Drawing its content and inspiration from the 1959 Robert Heinlein novel and the 1997 Paul Verhoeven movie of the same name, Starship Troopers is described by Microprose as a hybrid of role-playing and strategy, a squad based 3D role-playing strategy game. Starship Troopers has often been mentioned in the same breath as X-Com, offering such similar features as the ability to customize your assigned squad.
Summary: Despite Starship Troopers’ visceral action and cheesy charm, Paul Verhoeven’s interstellar bug hunt has only inspired one tedious strategy game in the eight years since it first tore up cinema screens. All that’s about to change, though, with the arrival of a gun totin’ adventure that puts you right in the thick of the action.
