  • Conclusion: Being a Cryptic game, STO bears many resemblances to the studio's last game, Champions Online. As such, similar thinking has gone into this title, and if you had issues with those ideas last time, you probably still will. Star Trek: Online may be far from perfect, but it's made a good opening move, and the content yet to come is set to make things even better.

Star Trek Online – PC Game Review

Armchair General

  • Excerpt: Star Trek Online ( STO ) had a rocky launch. I was one of those people who had paid $5 at Best Buy to Pre-Order Star Trek Online , just so I could get in my three weeks or so at playing the Beta before the official launch. Thankfully I was able to try it first, because when it came time to pony up $50 to buy it I had to pass for a number of reasons. Overall it was a mess when it debuted. It’s been over a year now since the launch.
  • Pros: Amazingly addictive space combat gameplay, fantastic visuals in space, and authentic Star Trek sounds throughout, scripted missions are good clean fun, loads of starship variety, intuitive interface, hardly any learning curve. Free Weekly Episode missions and Season content updates. Robust PVP and character creation options. Lots of canon material. It very well may be the best Star Trek PC game ever!
  • Cons: Annoying bugs. Most ground combat/content is bland and uninspiring. The Klingon side is an afterthought and it shows. Lack of end-game PVE content. Not for hardcore MMO enthusiasts.

Star Trek Online Review (PC)

  • Conclusion: Personally, I would have preferred a game that took more risks and didn't stick to the RPG formula so closely. At the end of the day, there isn't much to distinguish STO from a dozen other MMORPGs aside from the Star Trek skin. Nevertheless, what it tries to do it does reasonably well, even if the final product is rough around the edges.

  • Conclusion: In the end, Star Trek Online is a mixed bag. If you are a Star Trek fan you will get a huge kick out of being able to pilot your own ship into combat and having brushes with people places and things you have seen in the series and movies. Gamers who are not fans will still find a beautiful game with wonderful audio and music, but the shortcomings in gameplay outside of space combat leave much to be desired.
  • Pros: Beautiful graphics, great sound effects and music, fun space combat;
  • Cons: Currently no death penalty, ground missions are nothing to write home about, lack of documentation leaves players guessing on some game elements.

  • Excerpt: Controls & Accessibility For the Mobility Impaired As I previously mentioned, the gameplay system when on foot is almost directly lifted from Champions Online. Character movement is achieved most practically through keyboard/switch input. There is, unfortunately, no click-to-move option for those who typically rely on the mouse to play games, so the only way to control motion with the mouse is by holding down both mouse buttons to make your character move forward and...
