Summary: I'm not going to lie, I was one of those people who actually really enjoyed this game. I played it on a friend's computer a few years back. I decided to buy a copy for myself so I could give it another shot. Strangely, it refused to play above 5 fps, keeping in mind I am running a GeForce GTX 760, which is significantly more than the game calls for. I am not sure if it is just my machine or not, but it was really upsetting, since I wanted to give the game another shot.
Summary: This game will not install on Windows 7...Amazon lists windows 7 as being able to install SOF Payback to, but after upteen times trying, I can not get it to install !!!! I really wanted to play this game too...But after each and every time I tried to install it on my computer, after 30, 40 minutes I would get a error message telling me " source file not found" D:\setup2.cab" PLEASE Amazon....
Summary: Soldier of Fortune 1&2 had heart and soul. This game might as well be called "Soldier Street Fighter" in as much as it feels more like an arcade game than a FPS following a story line. EXAMPLE: at the end of each mission, you face down ther BOSS GUY who requires a zillion shots to kill like some big boss on the old quarter arcade games.
Summary: I had such high hopes for this game when it came out. I must have played through SOF2 at least 5-7 times, not to mention several hours in multiplayer mode. First, the good points. The graphics are very nice. They are much improved over SOF2. Also, I like having a wide choice of weapons and accessories before each mission.
Summary: I was excited to see a new installment of the SOF series was being released...but sadly, this is not what I was hoping for. As the other reviews have already mentioned, this is a budget release in everything but price ($40 is waaaay too high for a budget game!). The gameplay is very different to SOF and SOF2, and fans of the previous two games are highly likely to be disappointed by the poor quality of this third installment.
Summary: I have to say that I am very disappointed with this game. I really enjoyed the first two Soldier of Fortune games but this game did not live up to the franchise. My first complaint, this game is broken out of the box! Yes, some of the updates help (at least I have sound now) but it lacks the polish of even mediocre FPS. Second, the aiming in the game is terrible.
Nothing more than violence and a bunch of guns, Save your $$

Summary: I bought this game because ...I had a gift certificate. The singleplayer is pretty lame and repetitive. After the 1st couple levels I was failed to be at all slightly impressed. The graphics are pretty good but I noticed a lot of graphic flaws. For example when people's limbs get blown off they are missing textures and if you load a map through the console you'll notice a lot of graphic glitches.
Summary: Soldier of Fortune is a breakthrough of violence in the gaming world! But that is all it is. The game uses a heavily modified version of the quake 2 engine. The characters look somewhat blocky. The worst part of the game is that it is extremely repetitive. You kill person after person after person, that's all you do. By the end of the game you'll have killed over 1000 people. The story wasn't worth telling, and the enemies never get exciting.
Summary: When I first saw the "glorious" fps Soldier of Fortune, I must say I really took a step back. The graphics were so so, for the time, but the very graphic gore and bloody explosions were in a class by themselves. I truly loved to watch arms pop off, and heads explode. It was very entertaining. But alas, it is so fake I really only laugh at there silly attempt at "realistic gore".
Summary: I found this game very disappointing... I read all the reviews that said this game was the best, extremely fun, very real, etc. So I was expecting a game that consisted of undercover missions and espionage, but instead all you do in this game is run and shoot. You can't really sneak around because there's nowhere to go. All the levels are comepletely linear, you have no choice where you go, there is only one path.
