  • Summary: Sleeping Dogs is an open-world crime game for busy people. It's not an experience padded with multiple cities or the obligatory "slow living" town at the outskirts of the world map. Compared to recent game versions of Los Angeles in Grand Theft Auto V and Chicago in Watch Dogs , the dense depiction of Sleeping Dogs' Hong Kong lends itself well to all-business efficiency, where it doesn't take long to get anything done, whether it's a story mission or a stress-relieving...
  • Pros: A complete edition of an excellent game, Features the best traits of modern melee combat, Condensed version of Hong Kong encourages full game completion, Abundant in Chinese cultural insight (from a Hong Kong perspective)
  • Cons: Minor visual enhancements not enough to encourage a return visit

Sleeping Dogs Review (PC)

Softpedia
19 November 2012
  • Conclusion: It’s hard to form a strong conclusion about Sleeping Dogs because the game is an elusive creature that needs time to reveal its true nature and only does so via analogies with other titles and via small bursts of innovation that could almost go undetected. Mechanically, the game that United Front Games and Square Enix created is adequate most of the time and even impressive when it comes to the hand-to-hand multi-level battles.
  • Pros: + Hand-to-hand combat, + Some character development, + Hong Kong as a character
  • Cons: - Driving, - Main plot progression, - Lacks originality

  • Conclusion: Once upon a time Activision went through a massive purge and started canceling titles left and right. No title was safe from their metaphorical shredders as they removed titles like Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk from their release list.  Amongst that bonfire of canceled games was True Crime: Hong Kong. Later, Square Enix realized what an amazing title True Crime: Hong Kong could have been, so they bought it and decided to develop it with United Front Games.

Sleeping Dogs review

GameZone
14 August 2012
  • Excerpt: The story behind the development of Sleeping Dogs is almost as interesting as the stuff you get to do within the game itself.  The game started out being the next planned chapter in Activision's True Crime series, even getting an advertisement through a teaser trailer at the Spike Video Game Awards.

  • Excerpt: It's derivative as hell, but Sleeping Dogs' borrowed ideas are of a high enough quality to form an entertaining open-world experience.

  • Summary: What does it take to survive as an undercover cop who infiltrates one of Hong Kong's most ruthless criminal organizations? If Sleeping Dogs is any indication, it takes martial arts prowess, good marksmanship, driving skill, a reckless willingness to leap from one speeding vehicle to another, and the confidence to sing karaoke.
  • Pros: Savage melee combat, Alluring atmosphere, Fun driving and gunplay, Varied missions, Numerous collectibles to hunt down and other enjoyable diversions
  • Cons: Artificial-looking character models and animations

Sleeping Dogs review

Gameplanet
2 January 2013
  • Summary: An open-world game whose main point of difference is its best-in-class melee combat, Sleeping Dogs is a flawed yet often exhilarating ride through the mean streets of Hong Kong.
  • Pros: Strong voice acting, graphics, and sound design. Flawed yet enjoyable fighting, parkour, shooting, and driving mechanics that are well stitched together. Good cutscenes. Fatalities.
  • Cons: Control issues when fighting. Some screen tearing. Occasional bugs. Not much of lasting appeal outside of the main missions.

Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition

micromania.fr
26 February 2015
