Summary: This game rocks!! I picked up SH4 a 3-4 years ago(being a wolrd war 2 gamer) and fell in love. Now I have a new mistress in #3. U-boats are much smaller than the Gato class but the lone ship tonnage has the possiblity and probablity on being greater.much more crew control needed but if your into being the "captain" you'll love it. Heard SH5 ( another U-boat sim.) was a let down, SH3 is not. well worth it for your collection.when the Fatherland calls..
Summary: I own the original version of Silent Hunter 3. But the game has Starforce meant to prevent coping discs. If you play the original game on Windows 7, it won't play. But when I heard Encore got the rights to release both Silent Hunter 2 & 3 but removed the Starforce software, I had to pick it up! I was skeptical at first but when the game loaded, I was thrilled. While Silent Hunter 3 was released back in 2005, its still one of the best Submarine simulation games out there.
Summary: I had the orignal release of this game and it wouldn't run on windows 7. I read reviews of this release and was told the copy protection was removed so I ordered it and it worked! The game runs fine now.
Summary: Well, if you are expecting some arcade style WW2 submarine game, you better stay away from SH3. Otherwise you'll get bored, you'll come here and start writing reviews saying how boring this game is, etc. This is a WW2 U-boat simulator, this means that you'll spend most of the time sailing the huge empty ocean waiting for a ship or a convoy to get within your reach. If you are fine with this, then keep reading, if you're not, then forget about the Silent Hunter saga.
Summary: Without its severe flaws, this game would be a 9/10. Worth looking at if you are a mature, very patient gamer willing to put in some serious time. Still worth picking up 2012+ as there has been no really good sub-sim game since. I played it in 2011 with the GWX 3.0 mega-mod (there are newer mods but GWX is still one of the best or most polished). Setup can be difficult.
