Summary: First of all, I must warn you that the original box version of the game is very unstable and buggy. Patching to 1.4 is a must simply to make it not crash to tabletop. Patching/modding further - highly recommended to get the full flavor. But once you do that - it's one of the greatest sims out there. Definately worth the effort! I tried builds like this: BAD: 0) SH-IV 1.0 - this is simply unstable build.
Summary: This game is loads of fun, but be careful when modding, especially as this is a Steam version. I modded the heck out of it, and it worked for awhile. But, eventually, I did something and broke it. Now it will only work with certain mods, and, of course, not the mods I want to use. Other than that, I had no issues with downloading and installation.
Summary: This is an awesome sim! All of the S.H. sims are great. Never mind some of these nitpicking comments! The graphics are great. You can mod it to make it even better. I find this sim both relaxing and exciting! The AI is quite good, the Japanese destroyers will hunt you down and drop depth charges on you. They will also ram you! I was rammed by a freighter once too! That was quite a surprise! Buy this ! .
Summary: One of the best, even though it is a bit old now. Very realistic and it has almost infinite levels of reality to select. Since there is no single "correct' solution to each challenge, it can be different every time just by changing a few simple movements. Impressing video detail; like being able to use the observation periscope to see depth charges rolling off a destroyer deck 150 feet above.
