Great Game, But Not BB's Digital Download System

LadyEmbers, Bestbuy
26 June 2013
  • Summary: I am a HUGE Sid Meiers fan, and this is one of my all-time favorite PC games. This is really a free-reign game, and it is never the same game twice.
  • Pros: Game and content is excellent, price point is competitive, can use Rewards Zone on purchase
  • Cons: Digital Download system is frustrating to deal with, can only download onto one PC

  • Summary: Amazingly addictive little game. It's sandbox, so no two games will ever be the same. You're free to do what you want, however you want. It essentially revolves around four mini-games - sea combat, land combat, fencing, dancing. The downside of this formula is that it can feel a little repetitive after a while. Sid Meier's magic is there - making you juggle several balls at once which means that you quickly lose track of time.

  • Summary: Anything Sid Meier does should get perfect scores, period. The controls take a little getting used to, but then again translating this type of game to a touch screen must have taken a lot of work. Well done.

  • Summary: This game is really fun and it's good for many ages. It's addicting, once you play it it keeps calling you back. The controls are very easy to use and the graphics aren't bad either.

A good little game

Loic Hameon "Swampmaster", Amazon
31 January 2010
  • Summary: A fairly original game, composed of a variety of mini-games (sword fighting, dancing, treasure hunting, naval battles, etc.) Different eras available for added playability, but becomes repetitive farily quick. Not a game I'll play dozens of times in a row, but good for an evening long campaign every once in a while.

Good story lots of fun

DCSellman, Dooyoo
13 January 2009
  • Excerpt: Ever since I first saw The Princess Bride I was fascinated with all things swashbuckling. Pirates! is a really fun game, and very slightly addictive. The story is as a young boy, an Evil Pirate called Marquis Montalban kidnaps your family, and the your wealth. You escape and swear to avenge your family. 10 years later you choose passage to the Carribean on either French, Dutch, Spanish or English Galleons. You then trade, pillage and plunder your way to to infamy.

Pirate Sid is back on the high seas.

GKDurkin, Ciao
13 September 2008
  • Excerpt: "...but the welcome return of Sid Meier's Pirates to the PC has really got me caught up both in nostalgia for previous Pirate editions and the vogue for pirate themed books and movies. Those of you who remember the original Pirates in vibrant EGA graphics on the PC and Amiga will feel right at home as Mr Meier has made the wise decision to tweak gameplay but not to fix anything that is not broken. You take to the high seas with a world of adventure ...
  • Pros: Tried and tested gameplay coupled with great new graphics .
  • Cons: Almost too much to do in the lifepan of a pirate before retirement .
